OPEN TO ALL SIARGAONONS!

We are now accepting participants for the 3rd KUMBATI SIARGAO BOODLE FIGHT SETUP COMPETITION.

It is time to be recognized and claim the title as the BOODLE FIGHT MASTER/CHAMPION this year! JOIN NOW and do not miss this once in a year opportunity and be known as THE BEST in the ISLAND!

Guidelines:

1. The competition is open to all Siargaonon food enthusiasts. (e.g., Tour operators, restaurants, carenderias, resorts, bars, or any establishment duly registered at their respective municipalities.)

2. Applicants should fill-out the REGISTRATION FORM available at SITGOA Office or Municipal Tourism Office of General Luna. It can also be downloaded through the link attached.

3. Each team must compose of at least three (3) and a maximum of five (5) members.

4. The SITGOA Office and Municipal Tourism Office accept submission of entry forms from 8:00 AM of September 6, 2024 to 5:00 PM of September 16, 2024. An earlier cut-off date maybe announced if the maximum number of entrants based on the available space at the Boulevard have been reached. First Come, First Serve.

5. The team must use all of the ingredients listed below:
✓Rice & Pansit
✓Animal & poultry meat
✓Sea bounties: fish, squid, shrimps, shells, & crabs
✓Fruits & veggies
✓Siargaonon Local delicacies

6. The event is not a cooking competition. Entrants are allowed to bring their “cooked” dishes in the competition area. However, fruits and veggies should be prepared on the spot. Pre-sliced fruits and veggies are not allowed.

7. SYNTHETIC FOOD COLORING IS NOT ALLOWED.

8. Ceramic plates and bowls, plastic placemats, and other non-native service containers are not allowed. A native bowl for kinilaw or soup or dish with liquid is allowed.

9. The team will be provided with tables by the organizing team.

10. Tiering/layering of presentation or setup is allowed.

11. Entrants should always observe & follow health protocols, proper sanitation, and hygiene. Hairnets, gloves, and facemasks are required during the competition.

12. The team should provide native food covers for their entries. (e.g., Weaved palm leaves)

13. The team is only allowed one (1) hour and thirty (30) minutes to finish their work. Assistance and coaching from the audience are strictly prohibited.

14. PREVIOUS WINNERS INCLUDING ITS MEMBERS ARE NO LONGER ALLOWED TO JOIN THE COMPETITION and is subject for disqualification.

Since our organization's establishment, we have sponsored events, trainings, seminars, and programs that benefit the community in Siargao. One of our upcoming events is the 3rd Kumbati Boodle Fight setup competition on September 19th, which is an annual event in line with the fiesta celebration of the municipality of General Luna, promoting local food tourism to the world.

The events we have sponsored, hosted, initiated, and organized would not be possible without the collective efforts of our members, patrons, and major and minor sponsors who have generously supported these programs and activities.

As a token of our appreciation, we have created a souvenir program to showcase SITGOA's past initiatives. This is also to encourage potential future sponsors and patrons to support our cause and become part of our journey to help uplift the quality of life in our community.

SITGOA attends PH-US VFA Tempest Wind 2024 Forum

Dapa, Siargao –August 16, 2024. The Town Hall Forum was held at the Siargao Convention Center, gathering stakeholders from the Municipality of Dapa and General Luna. The forum focused on the upcoming Tempest Wind 2024 program aimed at enhancing the island's preparedness in countering terrorism.

The event served as a crucial platform for disseminating essential information about the PH-US Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) and its integration with the Tempest Wind 2024 exercise. Local officials, community leaders, and representatives from various sectors attended to gain insights into the strategic importance of these efforts and their impact on the community's safety.

Held at the Siargao Convention Center, the forum featured presentations from PNP of Dapa and General Luna, providing an overview of the Tempest Wind 2024 program and its role in strengthening local and national security measures. Attendees were briefed on the collaborative efforts between the Philippines and the United States under the VFA, which plays a pivotal role in the region's defense strategies.

The discussions also highlighted the importance of community involvement in ensuring the success of counter-terrorism measures. Stakeholders were encouraged to actively participate in preparedness activities, including emergency response drills and intelligence sharing, to enhance the overall security posture of the island.

As the Tempest Wind 2024 program draws near, the forum underscored the need for continued collaboration and vigilance within the community. The PNP, LGU Dapa and LGU General Luna reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with local stakeholders to ensure the safety and security of our island, specifically the two key municipalities for tourism and trade, namely Dapa and General Luna.

SITGOA partners WWF PH, DENR:
Initiates KADAP Underwater Clean-up Drive with 75 Participants for Siargao Marine Conservation

Siargao, Philippines – August 13, 2024 – Seventy-five participants took part in the Kalimpyo Kadagatan Program (KADAP) Underwater Clean-up Drive, targeting the coastlines and marine conservation areas of Pansukian Island and Daku Island.

The event, spearheaded by WWF Philippines and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources alongside Siargao Tour Guides and Organizers Association (SITGOA) and the various local and national organizations, aimed to combat underwater pollution in the island. Participants included members from General Luna-Tourism, MENRO, PCG, SIPLAS, PAMO, PNP, DENR, SIBOL, USAID, WWF, RARE Philippines, LGU-SK General Luna, BFAR, GLPOBA, Palaka Dive Center, Bureau of Fire Protection, and the Infantry Fight-On Battalion.

Participants gathered early for registration, followed by a brief program and a Pledge of Commitment to protect Siargao’s marine environment. Teams were then deployed to designated cleaning sites for the underwater clean-up, which saw divers and volunteers working together to remove debris and waste.

The event concluded with an iconic Siargao Boodle Fight Lunch at Daku Island, celebrating the collective efforts in preserving the island's natural beauty and marine life.

SITGOA partners DICT in revitalizing SURF-IT for Technology Tourism

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) conducted an Enhanced InDev workshop last August 30-31, 2023 at Surigao del Norte State University-Del Carmen Campus. InDev is one of the activities under DigitalCitiesPH that is designed to share the experience of successful ICT Councils through the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines (NICP). It focuses on further developing local IT-BPM talents in a locale and aims to engage relevant stakeholders, identify areas for improvement, and foster collaboration among relevant stakeholders for the creation of their local ICT roadmap.

SITGOA, as an active tourism organization in the island, participated the event led by their president, Adrian Camingue, and its members namely, Jessa Ricamora, Rhea Mae Pacañor, Rene de Jesus Jr., Maylin Conte, & Archie Mecate.

The event ended with the signing of a memorandum of agreement to demonstrate the commitment to make SURF-IT an active organization that caters to the needs of digital nomads and the community of IT professionals on the island. The goal is to help improve tourism services by utilizing digital technology.

🔥1st SITGOA FEATURE WRITING COMPETITION🔥

To raise awareness on cultural heritage and its significance and to encourage SIARGAONONS to explore, discover, and write features about culture, traditions, history, and arts of our beloved island--SIARGAO, SITGOA is inviting everyone to join our 1st FEATURE WRITING COMPETITION.

Mechanics:

1. The contest is open, from July 21 to July 30, 2023, to all interested individuals. No registration fee is required.

2. Contestants must submit a minimum of 800 words—creative and original feature story about the LOCAL CULTURE, HERITAGE AND ARTS which may include but is not limited to PEOPLE’S LIFE, LITERARY PIECES, INHERENT TRADITION, INDIGENOUS ARTS AND CRAFTS, UNIQUE FESTIVALS, HERITAGE AND HISTORICAL SITES in any of the 9 Municipalities of Siargao Islands. Cultural resources including artistic and literary pieces in the locality which are threatened to be lost or extinction will likewise be given focus.

 He/ She can submit a maximum of three entries.
 Write-ups may be written in English.

3. ENTRIES CAN BE SUBMITTED ON OR BEFORE JULY 30, 2023 to ANY of the following:

 to SITGOA OFFICE @ 2ND floor, DGT GRAPHICS & PRINTS, P1, General Luna, Surigao del Norte;
 via electronic mail to: [email protected]

4. All entries must be encoded in MS Word in A4 size paper with the following specifications: Arial font size 10, 1 spacing and a 1” margin on all sides.

5. The participant’s identity must not appear on any of the pages of the entry. Participant’s identity to include his/her full name, address and cellphone/mobile number must be written in a separate sheet.

6. Criteria for Judging will be as follows:
 Story Content/ Substance 40%
 Impact and Relevance 20%
 Creativity, Style and Presentation 20%
 Originality 20%
 Total 100%

7. The GRAND PRIZE WINNER will receive P3,000.00 cash and certificate. Non-winners will receive gift cards from SITGOA.

8. Decision of the panel of judges is final. Entries will be verified and researched by SITGOA staff for originality. Non-original feature stories will automatically be disqualified.

9. Winning and non-winning entries may be included in the compiled written works about our local culture by SITGOA for publication. Winning and Non-winning feature stories which will be included in the compilation for publication will be attributed to the author but he/she accepts that SITGOA will have the right to edit the feature based on SITGOA Editorial and Style Guide and for copyright of SITGOA.

10. Winners will be informed accordingly on the date of awarding. Non-winning entries will each receive a certificate of participation.

Mr. Dave Del Rosario, Operations Head of QBO Innovations Hub, shortly gave a primer of QBO, and the Philippines’ growing startup ecosystem. Ms. Szachi Ducusin (QBO Program Manager for Community & Ecosystem) and Ms. Ciara Tabaculde (Program Associate for Community & Ecosystem) substantiated the discussion about the roles of each stakeholders in the potential growth of startups and the purpose of startup ecosystem mapping in General Luna. DOST- SNSU WAVES TBI PDO III Engr. Princess Zyrlyn Mordeno affirmed the need for public-private collaboration and the succeeding day mapping of the startup ecosystem to arrive with creative ways of solving challenges in the island.
