Who is tour guide Papa Bear?
Visiting the Philippines particularly the Northern part of Luzon in the highlands of the Cordillera, you will get to know Clint Taynan popularly known as Papa Bear in the Tour Guiding and Travel scene. He started as a photojournalist before focusing into travel photography and adventure event organizing. Before setting up an innovation school, he organized and conducted mentorship seminars on tour guiding, travel photography and film, art appreciation and management.
Aside from the travel industry, he is also an active Indigenous People Empowerment advocate through his Farmpinas venture that develops urban and rural farm as investment for young generation professionals wanting to engage into collaborative organic and GAP farming. His scaffold design greenhouse and reclaimed wood patents has leveled-up into a franchise.
During his interview, he was often asked why he mix tour guiding with real estate. He said, “If you want tourism to be economically sustainable, the community should have an avenue to run their collective enterprise while tourist will also have a means to be part of the community through a piece of property that they can invest on with economic return over time”. His statement is often fallowed by “How?”. He often smile and says, “By putting up a school of innovation that offers practical and enterprising green and socially responsive concepts, members of the community are empowered to invest and appreciate the influx of tourist. And the first step is offering green awareness educational tours and success story circuit tours”. The real estate tour fallows after the client appreciate the potential of the place.
Another common question is “How does your photography and film experience help in your social endeavor?”. He answered, “Photography speaks a million words, Film gets your heart to the specifics, and you only need a specific guide to see a place in a new and different perspective... a Papa Bear... while smiling he also added.... “make sure that guide is also an artist who understand the culture, adversity, resiliency and most importantly the history of the place including its leaders.”..... then you can say you have a great tour guide... His last words in all his interview was “After all, there is no such thing as best tour guide, only a guide wanting to be among the best.”
