Mr. Michael Moreno, DMO III, has led a team of 21 individuals coming from DENR-PENRO Agusan del Norte, CENRO- Nasipit, MENRO-Las Nieves, Las Nieves Tourism Office, and Clean Philippines Inc.
The Philippine eagle week is a celebration of the life and survival of the Philippine eagle which symbolizes our resilience as Filipinos. It has been known as our national bird, a flagship species in the campaign for the conservation of the rich biodiversity of the country. For this yearโs celebration, a discussion has been done about the rationale behind the campaign, explaining to the Higaunon locals the importance of conserving the jungle of Bokbokon which could be home to the Philippine Eagle. According to Mr. Moreno, the eagle helps in maintaining the balance in our ecosystem since they prevent the overgrowth of other organisms such as mice and snakes. In that regard, Mr. Moreno has asked the support of the Higaunon locals to refrain from hunting it and advocate for its protection instead.
