I've just discovered that Zambales is not only about coves, beaches, and surfing. About 30-min sea travel from Candelaria mainland lies an island with a sandbar that extends through the open sea. Yes, SANDBAR! What made it even more interesting is that the sandbar stood still and did not vanish from our sight all throughout our stay. The view was ours all day! 📌 HERMANA MENOR ISLAND, ZAMBALES
UPDATE:
(5/23/2018) The island is temporarily closed until further notice
(6/2018) The island is open for public
(10/2018) The island is closed and will reopen on February 2019
(02/2019) Still waiting for permit to operate
(03/2020) The island is still closed

👉 HOW TO GET THERE
Before I give instructions, allow me first to give you few reminders: DO NOT LITTER. DO NOT TAKE HOME CORALS AND SANDS. DO NOT STEP ON THE CORALS. DO NOT PICK THE FLOWERS. DO NOT PET THE WILD ANIMALS. BE A RESPONSIBLE TRAVELER.
1. Take a Victory Liner Bus bound to Sta. Cruz, Zambales. Tell the conductor to drop you off at Petron Gas Station in Uacon. (5-6hrs, 456php)
2. Ride a tricycle going to the port.
3. Ride a boat to Hermana Menor Island.
📝 NOTES/TIPS:
▪️ VICTORY LINER CALOOCAN is the only terminal that has direct trips to Sta. Cruz, Zambales.
EDIT: Victory Liner Sampaloc Manila and Pasay Terminal have direct trips to Sta. Cruz, Zambales as well. You may check their website for schedules and fares

(Thanks to Ms. Alyssa Marie Santos Dejarme for this info ;) )
▪️Brgy. Uacon in Candelaria is the jump-off point to the island so do take note that you will not reach Sta. Cruz. So better set your alarm at around 5am if you're a heavy sleeper.
▪️We took the midnight bus schedule so that we could arrive in Uacon at around 5-6am since only day tour is allowed iin the island. No overnight stay.
▪️BOAT RENTAL fee ranges from 1,500 to 2,000. But we got ours for only 1,200. Contact Ate Maricris Dayto @ 0909-067-1869. Friendly, accommodating, and quick to reply :)
▪️Recommended side trip: Potipot Island. Ate Maricris' rate is 1,500 for Hermana + Potipot. Boat is good for 4-6pax. Entrance fees not included. Potipot Entrance Fee = 300 daytour, 500 overnight.
▪️WE SPOTTED FEW TRASHES during our visit. Please throw your garbage at designated trash bins. If you can't find a trash bin, bring your garbage when you get back to the mainland and dispose them properly. Please? (Sa totoo lang di na dapat to sinasabi alam na dapat to eh nakakainis)
▪️WHEN GOING BACK TO MANILA, I recommend you to ride a tricycle going to Sta. Cruz Terminal of Victory Liner so you could secure your bus seat. If you will wait for the bus along the highway of Uacon, chances are you'll be standing at the bus. Victory Liner bus schedule from Sta. Cruz Zambales to Caloocan is 7PM (but better arrive before 7). Tricycle from Uacon to Sta. Cruz terminal is 150.
💰BUDGET BREAKDOWN for 2pax:
▪️Victory Liner Bus (Caloocan-Uacon) = 432
▪️Drinking water (5gal) = 100 divided by 2 = 50
▪️Boat rental = 1,200 divided by 2 = 600 per head (Boat is good for 6pax but we were only 2, the more people the cheaper)
▪️Entrance fee = 100
▪️Tricycle to Sta. Cruz Terminal = 150 divided by 2 = 75 each
▪️Victory Liner Bus to Caloocan = 456
TOTAL = 1,713 per person (food not included because it varies kung gano ka katakaw)
Our food expenses (BF+L+D) = 285 for 2pax = 143 each (pandesal, hotdog, egg, chicken adobo, corned beef, itlog na maalat, rice, pork barbecue, dilis)
