The town was once part of the Municipality Sindangan.

The term "Liloy" means rapid rotating or circling movement of water.

Liloy is known as the "Peanut Capital of Zamboanga del Norte."

Remembering the 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐲𝐮 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐮 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭: 𝐎𝐧 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟕, 𝟏𝟗𝟒𝟒, tragedy struck the Shinyu Maru, a Japanese cargo ship carrying American prisoners of war, was sunk by Allied forces. Elders from Liloy, who witnessed the aftermath of the sinking, provide firsthand stories, recounting how the tragedy unfolded along their coast.

Preserving the legacy of a forgotten chapter in history. Their testimonies bring to life the stories of survival, loss, and resilience from a time when war touched their shores.

Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the Shin'yō Maru Incident on September 7, 2024:

Join us for a ceremonial program and holy mass at the proposed Shin'yō Maru Landmark and Memorial Center in Lamao, Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte this coming Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 9:00 o’clock in the morning.

We honor the memory of Chaplain Joseph Verbis Lafleur, whose martyrdom aboard the Shin'yō Maru is now part of the sainthood process.
