In an interview on Radyo Pilipinas Palawan with Gilian Faye Ibañez on Friday, January 19, Provincial Tourism Officer Maribel C. Buñi said this year’s arrival have exceeded the “conventional level” of 10-20% expected growth rate.
“Ang forecast po natin ay at the conventional level na 10 to 20% [growth rate]. Maganda na we have exceeded that although from 2021-2022, medyo tumaas na rin po talaga but in 2023, maganda ‘yung padating o bilang ng mga turista and hopefully by 2024 o 2025 mapantayan po natin ‘yung 2019 arrivals kasi ‘yun po ‘yung ating benchmark –we are at our highest in 2019,” Buñi said.
In 2019, the arrivals ballooned to 1,987,605, then dropped to 318K in 2020, and 64K in 2021, at the height of coronavirus pandemic.

“Nakita natin ‘yung sinasabi ng ating mga tourism experts na revenge travel o revenge travelers –gustong-gustong magbiyahe ng mga tao,” she added.
She said revenge travel has contributed a lot in the 2023 arrivals as tourists eager to travel following the removal of travel restrictions since 2022.
“With the trend of tourist arrivals in 2023, we can say that we are rising from the pandemic,” the Tourism Chief said in a separate statement (read full statement: https://bitly.ws/3aru7).
This year, the Provincial Tourism Office set a baseline target of 1.9-M tourist arrivals.
