My Intro to Freediving was last November 1, 2016 in Monkey Beach, Sabang, Puerto Galera.
2. What is freediving in Ilocos like?
Ilocos is a very friendly place for tourists both local and foreign. As the touristiest spot of Northern Luzon, Ilocos boasts of graceful, historic churches, panoramic vistas of rugged mountains, hidden waterfalls and deep aquamarine-colored seas which favors freediving. Freediving is not yet a mainstream activity amongst tourists and locals in Ilocos. I have already ran several freediving events (since I started middle of this year -2017) and am still eyeing on showcasing how beautiful the ILOCOSirena haven is. Freediving in Ilocos is indeed the best way to go in terms of communing with the whole ocean. You’ll get to experience a tricky shallow-like depth, you can enjoy the clear water up to 20-30 meters.
3. What is your favorite underwater activity?
Aside from freediving/skindiving and taking pictures of underwater realm, I love bringing fashion and making underwater as my runway and working with my AWRA shots at the same time.
4. What you do when you’re not diving?
When I am not in the water, I am working on my kitchen skills in creating my own version of various chicken dishes and pasta. I do research about the taste of different herbs and creating healthy food. I also have this passion on arts and work on my unfinished charcoal paintings.
5. How to make the best pictures wearing a dress under water?
It takes tons of determination, relaxation and presence of mind to generate nice shots with long gowns/dresses underwater, plus, you have to be BRAVE. I must admit that it isn’t that easy. Everything I have created and done stems from imagination. I translate my vision into action and it can be noticed on my photos and videos. Indeed, it entails to have a beautiful vision and a tenacious attitude to have a magnificent work of art.
6. How many students have passed through your lessons since you started coaching, your guess?
I started coaching on the 5th of January of 2017. Since then, I have more or less 130 events where there’s an average of 5-10 students/event.
7. What are your future diving plans?
Like any one else’s dream, I plan to dive in the best diving spots in the Philippines and the whole World. To promote my own ILOCOSirena Freediving back home in the province and possibly the whole country, and still stick to the mission of helping the non-swimmers/traumatized/Thalassophobic to conquer their fears, build their confidence in open water, and spread the love and care for the sea.
Ilocosirena Freediving is passionate about teaching Open Water Survival, Snorkeling without life vest and Freediving at a level that is fun, informative and safe for beginners and non-swimmers. We are committed to transform your adventure into a lifetime activity that will educate, inspire and energize yourself in ways that you have never imagined. As the community grows, we want to expose every individual to amazing diversity of our marine life while at the same time teaching everyone about how to spread and give back the love to our environment.
Come share our passion for freediving.
