This weekโs featured seal is the official seal of the Municipality of Majayjay, Laguna.
Adopted in 1996, the seal features a shield from the provincial seal of Laguna where it was located. The 40 stars represent the number of Barangays in the town. On the top of the shield, the year 1571 was written that depicts the year it was founded.
Inside the shield, there was the Mount Banahaw, where the town was located on its foot, the Majayjay Waterfalls, and the San Gregorio Papa Magno Church which was the oldest church in the province of Laguna.
The coconut, lanzones tree, pandan plant and rice field represents the product and livelihood of the town. The ribbon with inscriptions โDangal at Talinoโ served as a guide for the officials to perform their duties.
Founded in 1571, Majayjay was among the towns where the Spaniards built a church. Father Juan de Plasencia commenced the foundation of the towns of Tayabas, Caliraya, Lucban, Majayjay, Nagcarlan, Lilio, Pila, Santa Cruz, Lumbang, Pangil, Siniloan, Morong, Antipolo and Meycauayan. Due to its location at the foot of the mountain, Majayjay was spared the continuous attacks and ravages of the Muslims. It was only affected by the Chinese revolts of 1603 and 1639 and the British invasion of 1762.
During the Philippine Revolution, Laguna joined the revolution in late-1896. People rose in arms and killed the Spanish justice of the peace in Majayjay. Emilio Jacinto, a prominent figure and the โBrains of the Katipunanโ became commander of an army against the Spaniards in Majayjay after Bonifacioโs death. He continued to fight even against the Americans and died of malaria, 16 April 1899.
