TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS FOR TOURISTS COMING TO JAPAN ON FRIDAY, JUNE 10

As one of the last countries in the world, Japan is currently still keeping its borders closed to foreign tourists. However, it was announced that Japan will reopen its borders to travelers on guided tours from June 10.

In order to visit Japan as a tourist, the following two conditions will apply:

Travelers must visit Japan on a guided tour organized by a Japan-based travel agency or operator. The travel agency or operator will handle application procedures and be held responsible for the tour participants.
Travelers must arrive from a country on the "blue list", which lists countries where the risk of catching the coronavirus is considered low. There are currently 98 countries on the "blue list", including most countries in North America, East Asia, Europe and Ocean. PHILIPPINES IS INCLUDED ON THE LIST

Note that the list is subject to change, and that a country needs to be on the list on the date when the application for travel to Japan is submitted (as opposed to the actual date of travel).
A negative result from a PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to departure is required to enter Japan; however, there will be no test and no quarantine upon arrival in Japan for foreign tourists regardless of vaccination status.

Note furthermore that because the visa-waiver system is currently suspended, all travelers will need to apply for a visa in order to enter Japan.

It remains unknown when independent ( FIT AND DIY) tourists will be able to enter the country again.

As of April 1, 2022, the Government of Canada is easing border measures, moving towards a sustainable approach to COVID-19. From this date, fully vaccinated travellers will no longer need to provide a pre-entry COVID test.

Until this measure comes into force, travellers should continue to follow the existing border measures.

JUST IN: Effective Feb 1, fully vaccinated passengers will be required to present negative RT-PCR test taken within 48 hrs prior to departure from country of origin, and they will no longer be required to undergo facility quarantine.

Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated travelers would be required to undergo facility-based quarantine until the release of their negative RT-PCR test taken on the 5th day.

Due to the COVID-19 situation, the Embassy’s Consular section will be limiting the number of passport and citizenship applications it will receive and process from Canadian citizens.

Starting 10 January 2022, only urgent passport and citizenship applications, or those with confirmed travel within three months, will be processed. If you require urgent passport or citizenship services, please send an email to the Consular Section at [email protected] to provide a copy of your confirmed flight booking print-out or any relevant supporting document for your urgent processing request.

If you have already sent us an urgent passport or citizenship application via courier, kindly send an email to provide the reason and supporting documents for your urgent processing request. Please include the name of the courier service provider, waybill number and date the package was received at the embassy, in your email. Standard processing timelines will not apply.

Travelling soon? Starting October 30, 2021, travellers 12 years of age and older departing from a Canadian airport will need to be fully vaccinated to travel.

For travellers who are in the process of being vaccinated, there will be a short transition period where they will be able to travel if they can show a valid COVID-19 molecular test taken within 72 hours of travel, but that transition period will end on November 30.
