DOT execs pitch PH tourism in Japan travel mart

MANILA -- Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat outlined the Philippines’ national policy for sustainable tourism development and response to the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic before the Japanese travel market during the opening of the month-long 2nd Online Travel Mart of the Japan Association of Travel Agents Association (JATA).

The tourism chief led the country presentation last October 27 and was one of the panelists of the International Tourism Forum (ITF) which also included luminaries of the Japanese travel industry like Milton Morinaga, chairman of the board of Guam Tourist Bureau, and Eijiro Yamakita, president and CEO of the Japan Travel Bureau.

Hundred Islands eyes high tourist arrivals with shift to MGCQ

ALAMINOS CITY, Pangasinan – The City Tourism Office here is hoping for increased tourist arrivals following the province’s shift to modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) starting November 1.

In an interview on Friday, City Tourism Officer Miguel Sison said the tourist arrivals at the famous Hundred Islands National Park (HINP) here are averaging at 100 to 200 visitors daily on the third and fourth week of October.

“Mostly are local tourists since we were under general community quarantine with heightened restrictions from September 8 to October 30 banning tourists from areas under enhanced community quarantine and modified enhanced community quarantine,” he said.

Since June 9, French authorities have opened their borders for international travellers while also allowing vaccinated travellers from orange category countries, such as the Philippines, to enter the country free of quarantine.

According to a press release issued by the French embassy in the Philippines, travellers are now allowed to apply for a visa at the embassy whether they are travelling for essential reasons or not, by providing vaccination evidence, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

DENR bans kids below 12 from Manila Bay dolomite beach

MANILA - The Department of Environment and Natural Resources has banned children below 12 years of age from entering the dolomite beach in Manila Bay after tens of thousands trooped to the beach on Sunday.

The DENR said in a statement on Monday that even though it is "overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and interest of the public" with the dolomite beach, Metro Manila is still under COVID-19 Alert Level 3.

"Thus, in support of the efforts of the national government and the directives of the COVID-19 Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, children 12 years and below will not be allowed entry in the beach area starting tomorrow, October 26, 2021," it said.

PH remains Asia's top beach, dive destination

MANILA – The Philippines was once again hailed as Asia's leading beach and dive destination at the 2021 World Travel Awards (WTA).

This is the Philippines’ fifth time to win Asia's Leading Beach Destination and the third time in a row since 2019 to win Asia’s Leading Dive Destination award.

RT-PCR test exemption for fully vaxxed domestic tourists pushed

MANILA – The business sector is proposing to ease restrictions for domestic travelers visiting major tourist destinations in the country.

Presidential Adviser for Entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion, during the Go Negosyo’s Bakuna Townhall on Friday, said the private sector is in talks with the local government units (LGUs) of Aklan, Bohol, Cebu, Palawan, Siargao, and the rest of top tourist destinations to exempt fully vaccinated travelers from presenting reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test results upon arrival.

Cebu province, except for Cebu City, is no longer requiring visitors to present RT-PCR tests starting this month.

Siargao, Palawan, Boracay win spot in Condé Nast awards

MANILA – Three Philippine islands have landed a spot in the annual Condé Nast Traveler (CNT) readers' choice awards for top islands to visit this 2021.

Out of the 85 destinations listed, the surfing haven Siargao Island was recognized as this year's top favorite in Asia, while the world-famous Palawan and Boracay Island earned the third and eighth spots, respectively.

The three bested other world favorites in Asia like Indonesia's Raja Ampat Islands (second), Thailand's Phi Phi Islands (ninth), and Phuket (10th).

DOTr all set for initial ops of Bicol Int'l Airport

LEGAZPI CITY – It’s all system go for the formal opening of the Bicol International Airport (BIA) in Daraga, Albay on Thursday.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to lead the inauguration of the first international airport facility south of Manila.

The BIA, completed after almost 12 years at the cost of PHP4 billion, is in Barangay Alobo. It will receive commercial flights starting Wednesday (October 6), and domestic daytime flights starting Thursday (October 7).

DOT welcomes expanded indoor seating in NCR restos

MANILA – The Department of Tourism (DOT) on Friday welcomed the expanded indoor seating capacity for fully vaccinated persons in establishments in the National Capital Region.

Based on the latest Inter-Agency Task Force resolution, indoor dine-in services are now allowed 20 percent seating capacity, with an additional 10 percent for establishments granted a Safety Seal by the government.

The DOT noted that the allowed seating for outdoor dining remains at 30 percent but may increase by an additional 10 percent if the restaurant is also a Safety Seal recipient.

Cebu Pacific extends antigen test for HK-bound passengers

MANILA – As an added layer of protection, low-cost carrier Cebu Pacific (CEB) will continue providing free antigen tests before boarding among passengers bound for Hong Kong until October 15, an executive said on Monday.

"We are extending (this initiative) to continue extending an extra layer of protection as the situation remains fluid during the pandemic, and also due to the strict guidelines by the Hong Kong authorities for arriving passengers," CEB spokesperson Carmina Romero told the Philippine News Agency.

CEB earlier announced the free antigen test before boarding to be implemented from September 17 to 30. This is on top of the negative RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) test result required from Hong Kong-bound passengers 72 hours before their flight schedule.

INTRAMUROS AND RIZAL PARK REOPENS

Starting September 16, Rizal Park and 3 Intramuros sites will once again open its gates to visitors.

Only those within the age of 18 to below 65 shall be allowed in both Rizal Park and Intramuros sites. Park goers are advised to download the StaySafe app for faster entry into the park premises, although manual contact tracing forms will still be available at entrances for those without access to mobile phones. Also, all visitors shall undergo mandatory temperature checks at the sites’ entrance and are required at all times to adhere to the minimum health standards to sustain the resumption of tourism in the country.

What do the COVID 19 Alert Level Systems mean ?

Effective September 16, 2021, the National Capital Region shall be placed under GCQ with Alert Level 4.

Residents from the NCR, excluding those residing in areas under granular lockdowns, are subject to the reasonable restrictions based on age and comorbidities as may be determined by their respective local government unit (LGU) and GCQ Alert Level, and the reasonable regulations of the destination’s LGU.

Areas under GCQ with Alert Level System shall follow the protocols consistent with their Alert Levels as provided herein. For the duration of the pilot, classification of pilot areas in their Alert Levels shall be done weekly, unless otherwise specified.

GPS-TV: Traveling local destinations on one's own screen

MANILA – The hotel sector launched on Wednesday a travel show to guide tourists navigate Philippine leisure destinations under the new normal.

In a press conference, the Hotel Sales and Marketing Association (HSMA) said the second season of its GPS-TV titled “Go Safe, Go Travel: Walk and Talk With Us” will put together a list of travel spots across the country for all kinds of travelers along with the latest protocols imposed by the government.

"The public has to be constantly informed through a more adjustable format, (an) infotainment content on the updated protocols per locality to encourage domestic travelers to book and travel," HSMA President Benjamin Martinez said.

PH imposes travel restrictions on 4 countries on 'red list’

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 17) — The Inter-Agency Task Force on Friday imposed travel restrictions on Grenada, Papua New Guinea, Serbia and Slovenia, which are on the “red list” or classified as high risk for COVID-19.

The travel restrictions will be in place from Sept. 19 to 30, IATF spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement.

Hotels opening biggest sale on Sept. 15

MANILA – The hotel sector's biggest online travel sale is returning on September 15 to help revive the hard-hit tourism industry affected by the ongoing pandemic.

In a virtual presser on Tuesday, the Hotel Sales and Marketing Association (HSMA) said SOS or the September Online Sale will run from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, 2021 with "bigger promotions and discounts" in at least 80 hotels nationwide.

This year's SOS will offer various hotel vacation and food & beverage packages at as much as 70 percent off and can be accessed by visiting the HSMA website on the official launch.

The discounted packages are sold in the form of e-vouchers that can be used in a span of a year from the date of purchase and may be extended upon request.
