Salvador Araneta Memorial Institute (SAMI) is named so in honor of the school’s founder Mrs. Ana Marie Araneta Santos Ocampo’s father Dr. Salvador Araneta.

Dr. Araneta was a Filipino nationalist, educator, constitutionalist, statesman, civil servant, lawyer, economist, businessman, industrialist, environmentalist and philanthropist. He was a member of the Philippine Constitutional Convention of 1933 and 1971 and founder and twice president of the Philippine Constitution Association. Araneta served as Secretary of Economic Coordinator under Pres. Elpi

dio Quirino, Secretary of Agriculture under Pres. Ramon Magsaysay and as a member of the National Economic Council. As an educator, he founded the Gregorio Araneta University Foundation, the first private agricultural school after World War II. He also founded Feati University to train engineers and mechanics for the airline Far Eastern Air Transportation, Inc. the first airline that operated after the war serving China and San Francisco. Araneta was a pioneer in the flour industry- where he established Republic Flour Mills (RFM).To help abandoned and neglected children- Dr. Araneta established an orphanage located in Mandaluyong called the White Cross. Mrs. Ana Marie Santos Ocampo (AMASO), the school’s founder was an entrepreneur at heart who loved to set up businesses and organizations. From a very young age- she helped her father- Don Salvador manage his many businesses. When she opened the school in 1995- She kept herself busy by having regular outings with the teachers and employees – they would go to the beach or to the mountains together. She was well loved by her SAMI family. She founded SAMI in 1995 together with her school principal Mrs. Angelina Sandoval. From that time- the school has grown from a total student population of around 800 students in 1995 to over 1,600 students in 2010. The school became known in the area for delivering quality education at very affordable tuition fee rates. Parents were now enabled to send their children to a private school that not only employed experienced and qualified teachers but also made it a point to limit the number of students per classroom. So SAMI continues to mold our youth into productive, responsible, caring – God fearing and world class citizens
