📌Barangay NABAOY is one of the original 13 barrios to be included in House Bill No. 1749, later to become R.A. 381, dated June 15, 1949.
🔹Origin of the Name
➡️Two loggers (Manogtroso) were discussing about the height of a particular tree they were planning to cut for lumber. The first guy was telling the other guy that the tree was tall enough, but the other guy insisted that it was still short for the purpose. When a third guy arrived, he asked for the final word so that they can decide whether to cut it or not. The first guy says it was tall enough, but the second guy argued . . . naba oy!. . .” so, they finally decided not to cut that tree and from day on the word “naba oy” became a password every time people mention of going to the place precisely to cut logs for lumber.

📍Barangay KABULIHAN, Malay, Aklan
Kabulihan is the third largest barangay in the Municipality of Malay. Prior to her establishment, the place was covered with tall and thick groves of buri palms such that the early inhabitants who pioneered to settle in the place had to clear the ground of buri trees and built their homes. Thus, where the barrio derived her original name.

This place is perfect for tourists who need a refreshing dip or swim after exploring the beaches and hills of Naasug and other nearby villages.
📌How to get there:
☑️Facing Malay Municipal Hall, go right going to the beach. In the middle of the rough road going to habal-habal terminal of Barangay Naasug, you will see a pathway in the left side. Follow it, walk for five minutes until you reach the end. And voila, you're there!
☑️You may also ride a habal-habal or drive a motorcycle so you can get there in no time because the spot has enough space for motorcycles to enter.
🗒There will be times when you'll see locals doing their laundry or bathing there and sachets are scattered everywhere. The site is not considered as an attraction yet and for now, a communal water source for the residents.
I hope it will soon be added as an official attraction in our barangay.

🌿BANIG
📍Kabulihan, Malay, Aklan
A baníg is a handwoven native mat usually used in East Asia and Philippines for sleeping and sitting. Technically, it is not a textile. Depending on the region of the Philippines, this type of mat can be made of baliw, buri, pandanus or sea grass leaves.
The leaves are dried and dyed then woven to produce a uniquely designed or patterned mat.

📍NABAOY, MALAY, AKLAN
Nabaoy is not only known as one of the tourist destinations and the main water source here in Malay but it is also known as one of the barangays where you can find authentic foods, different native products like handicrafts, vegetables, and fruits. The main livelihood of many people living here since the time of our ancestors are planting fruits and vegetables and making native products like "walis tambo".
Due to CoViD-19 pandemic, many locals have lost their jobs and have nothing to sustain their daily living which gave way to the innovative and creative side of many residents by going back to the basics like making handicrafts which the elders used to make as an alternative source of livelihood.
Such effort from the locals actually highlights the culture and heritage of Malaynons which can be integrated to tourism as cultural tourism. When the gates open again for tourists, I hope that the practice will continue because it may offer tourists new experiences and can generate new tourism markets.
So, what are you waiting for? Come and visit Nabaoy!

🌾AGRI-TOURISM OR AGROTOURISM
📍Cubay Sur, Malay, Aklan
Cubay Sur is an agricultural barangay where many locals depend on rice farming as their source of living. Since tourism is one of the main industries of Malay where Boracay Island is, it is a great idea to have agrotourism as an alternative livelihood for the people of Cubay.
In this vlog, I will show you the traditional farming and the irrigation system that supplies it.
I hope to highlight eco-awareness living among Malaynons particularly Cubaynons for them to be educated on the opportunity of tourism being integrated in the way of life of local farmers while protecting the environment especially our river.
