The evaluation involved the participation of department heads from the Local Government Unit (LGU), each responsible for key areas such as Business Friendliness and Competitiveness, Sustainable Education, Environmental Management, Social Protection and Responsibility, Safety, Peace, and Order, Tourism, Heritage Development, Culture, and Arts, Disaster Preparedness, Health Compliance and Responsiveness, and Youth Development.

DepEd Malay Joins International Coastal Cleanup Efforts

In a commendable show of environmental responsibility, the Department of Education (DepEd) in Malay, Philippines, has partnered with enthusiastic volunteers from the Boy Scouts, teachers, students and dedicated athletes to actively participate in the International Coastal Cleanup initiative.

This remarkable endeavor is being spearheaded by Manocmanoc National High School and Yapak Elementary School on Boracay Island and Caticlan Elementary School on the mainland. Together, they are taking significant steps to combat pollution in their local environment, with a particular focus on the oceans.

What makes this effort even more notable is the timing. The International Coastal Cleanup Day is observed on the third Sunday of September each year, as mandated by Presidential Proclamation No. 470. This annual event serves as a powerful reminder of the growing pollution crisis affecting beaches worldwide, exacerbated by factors such as population growth and capitalism.

The International Coastal Cleanup Day stands as the largest volunteer-driven initiative dedicated to the health and well-being of our oceans. It underscores the importance of collective action and global awareness in preserving not only the oceans but the entire planet. This initiative by DepEd Malay and its dedicated volunteers exemplifies the impact that local communities can have on global environmental issues.

The recent convening of the first Malay District Convergence of Private Secondary and Elementary School Heads has set the stage for a dynamic partnership in the realm of education.

Sir Jessie S. Flores, known for his unwavering support for private schools, has been a vocal advocate for public-private partnerships in education implementation. Classes are automatically suspended when the PAGASA rainfall warning is orange or red; there is no need for an announcement.

In cases where an LGU receives a yellow rainfall warning or when there are torrential rains without a heavy rainfall warning, the decision will be based on the local chief executives (either the governor or mayor)

Parents or guardians have the final say on whether their children attend classes during disasters or calamities, even without official class suspensions.

Remember to take necessary precautions and stay updated through our weather alert system.

DepEd Malay Schools Eagerly Commence School Year 2023-2024.

In adherence to DepEd Order 32 s. 2023, calendar of activities, the school year was officially slated to commence on August 29, 2023, across various educational institutions in the municipality. However, due to a severe red heavy rain warning signal, the start of classes was postponed by Municipal Mayor Frolibar S. Bautista.

As a result, the academic year was inaugurated on August 30, 2023, with students and educators finally coming together for the much-anticipated first day of learning. The opening of classes was closely monitored by Public Schools District Supervisor Jessie S. Flores, who took the opportunity to assess the readiness of the schools.

During his visits to each school, Supervisor Flores highlighted the key indicators established by the Department of Education, providing insight into what can be expected in the initial stages of the academic year. He conveyed his enthusiasm and encouragement to both students and teachers, setting a positive tone for the months ahead.

Simultaneously, Supervisor Flores provided guidance to school heads, urging them to complete the Monitoring and Evaluation tools online and corresponding forms during his visits. It was heartening to note that the schools displayed a high level of compliance with the majority of indicators outlined in the monitoring tools.

The first day of classes unfolded successfully throughout the Malay district, marking a promising start to the academic journey for students and educators alike. Despite the challenges posed by the weather delay, the dedication of all involved parties has laid a solid foundation for the remainder of the school year.
