1/11 Japan Snow Report

The last few model runs have become concerning for temps and snowfalls across Japan over the next two weeks, more so the second week. The JMA is also pessimistic on temps and snowfall into early/mid February. Hopefully we see a change with this and the positive is the latest model run did trend in a better direction, so hopefully this continues. For those chasing the next two weeks, Tohoku might be the pick...

Honshu (Nagano/Niigata focus) - On and off snow for the next 5 days before a warming event settles in the 18th - 21st with temps at or just below freezing and mostly clear skies. Snow looks to return again on the 22nd. Snowfall Amounts: Today/11th (5 to 10cm), 12th (trace to 5cm), 13th (5 to 15cm), 14th (none to trace), 15th (25 to 50cm), 16th (trace to 5cm), 17th (none), 18th (none), 19th (none), 20th (none), 21st (none), 22nd (15 to 30cm, mainly later in day and overnight), 23rd (5 to 10cm).

Hokkaido - Look for lighter snowfalls for the next week, followed by another lull, potentially more lengthy than normal this time of year. Hopefully the last week of the month sees it really crank back up. Snowfall Amounts: Today/11th (none to trace), 12th (5 to 10cm, later in day/overnight), 13th (5 to 10cm), 14th (10 to 20cm), 15th (5 to 10cm), 16th (15 to 30cm), 17th (5 to 10cm), 18th (none), 19th (none), 20th (none), 21st (none), 22nd (5 to 10cm), and 23rd (trace to 5cm).

Tohoku - Per usual milder temps than Hokkaido, with snow this next week before a break in the action and warming temps around freezing. Snowfall Amounts: Today/11th (trace to 5cm), 12th (none to trace), 13th (trace to 5cm), 14th (10 to 20cm), 15th (20 to 40cm), 16th (20 to 40cm), 17th (10 to 20cm), 18th (trace to 5cm), 19th (none), 20th (none), 21st (5 to 10cm), 22nd (5 to 10cm), and 23rd (trace to 5cm).

How to Apply for a USA Visitor Visa for the First Time ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Applying for a US Visitor Visa can seem complex, but understanding the requirements and steps can make it more manageable. Below is a guide, including information you may need to provide as part of your application.

1. What is a US Visitor Visa?

A US Visitor Visa (B1/B2) allows you to travel to the US for short-term stays, typically for up to 6 months. It's ideal for people who want to visit for tourism, business, or family visits.

1. Eligibility Criteria

To apply for a US Visitor Visa, you need to meet the following criteria:

- You must be at least 18 years old (if applying as an adult).
- You should have sufficient funds to support yourself during your stay.
- You should intend to leave the US at the end of your visit.
- You must not have any criminal convictions or immigration violations.
- You should not intend to work or study (except for specific visa categories).

1. Documents Required

The following documents are required when applying for a US Visitor Visa:

(A) Personal Information

1. Passport Details - A valid passport or travel document with at least one blank page.
2. Personal Identification Details - Full name (as in your passport), date of birth, gender, nationality, and current address and phone number.
3. Travel History - Details of any travel youโ€™ve made to the US or other countries in the last 10 years.
4. Financial Details - Proof of funds to show you can support yourself during your stay (e.g., bank statements, payslips, or sponsorship letter).

(B) Additional Supporting Documents

- Cover letter explaining the purpose of your visit and your travel itinerary.
- Photographs - Recent passport-sized photographs that meet the US visa photo requirements (usually two).
- Invitation Letter (if applicable) - If you are visiting family or friends, you should include an invitation letter from your host.
- Proof of Ties to Your Home Country - Evidence of employment, family ties, or property ownership in your home country.

1. Applying for a US Visitor Visa

2. Complete the Application - Go to the official US Department of State website and complete the online application form (DS-160).
3. Pay the Visa Fee - The standard fee for a visitor visa is typically around $160, though this can vary depending on your nationality.
4. Schedule an Interview - After completing the application, you will need to schedule an interview at a US embassy or consulate.
5. Submit Your Documents - Submit your application and supporting documents at the embassy or consulate.
6. Attend an Interview - Attend the scheduled interview, where you will be asked questions about your application and travel plans.

7. Processing Time

The US Visitor Visa processing time typically takes 2-4 weeks from the date of submission. However, this can vary depending on your country of residence, the time of year, and individual circumstances.

1. Receiving Your Visa

Once your visa is approved, you will receive your passport with the visa stamp or vignette, allowing you to travel to the US.

1. Additional Tips

- Apply Early: It's best to apply at least 2 months before your intended travel date.
- Follow All Instructions: Carefully read all the instructions provided during the application process to avoid delays or mistakes.
- Travel Insurance: Itโ€™s advisable to have travel insurance for the duration of your stay in the US.
- Proof of Intent to Return: US immigration authorities may require evidence that you intend to leave the US at the end of your visit, such as a return ticket or evidence of employment or family ties in your home country.

1. Common Reasons for Refusal

Some of the most common reasons applications for a US Visitor Visa are refused include:

- Insufficient funds to support yourself during your stay.
- Lack of proof of intention to return to your home country.
- Incomplete or inaccurate application or documentation.
- Criminal record or past visa violations.
