Buscalan, Tinglayan Kalinga
Buscalan, formerly Buscalan-Locong, is a remote village located in the Municipality of Tinglayan, the 4th class municipality in the Province of Kalinga. Buscalan village is quite rich in culture and history. The most interesting part is their hand-tapped tattoos. It is known to be the home of the last mambabatok (Tattoo Artist) of the Butbut Tribe. A 105-year old Apo Whang Od is the oldest and last of her tribe to have practice their tattoo culture. Originally, batok or hand-tapped tattoos are only exclusive for their tribe, as it signifies a milestone on their lives - a marriage or success in battle. As time passed, it has become a form of art where they can share to all tourist.
Aside from getting inked, you can sit down over their famous Rice Coffee with the locals and talked about their culture and traditions. You can also walk around Padjao Rice Terraces that best enjoyed during sunrise, getting a dose of freah air and cold breeze.
