Second Corregidor Joining Tour Special
Happening on May 5, 2024(Sunday)

Corregidor's Surrender
The Chronicle Of Valor

After enduring relentless bombing and artillery barrages from the enemy, the weary soldiers defending Corregidor and the other fortified islands of Manila Bay finally laid down their arms on the 6th of May 1942, succumbing to the determined siege of the Japanese forces. This historic event exemplified the courage and resilience of Filipino and American soldiers who, despite facing overwhelming odds, fought with unyielding determination. Their gallantry deserves to be remembered, and the lessons it holds must be learned.
In our ongoing efforts to revive tourism on Corregidor, we are launching our second Joining Tour Special titled "Corregidor’s Last Stand: A Chronicle of Valor." This event is both a tribute to the Filipino and American soldiers who, in their surrender to the enemy, displayed courage and resilience, and a celebration of the valor displayed by all who fought on the island. Joining us to shed light on these topics is Mr. Tony Feredo, a renowned subject matter expert on the Harbor Defenses of Manila Bay and WWII campaigns in the Philippines. We are truly honored to have him join us for this special occasion.

25/02/2024

On March 2, 1945, following a two-week campaign to reclaim the island from Japanese forces, the American Flag was proudly raised at the Topside flagstaff. General Douglas MacArthur, during the ceremony, uttered the famous words: "I can see the old flagstaff still standing. Have your men hoist the colors to its peak and let no enemy ever hoist it down." A pivotal moment occurred three years earlier when the US Flag was lowered as Filipino and American troops after enduring 129 days on the island of Corregidor surrendered to the Japanese on May 6, 1942.
Today, Corregidor Island stands as a poignant memorial to the sacrifices of the soldiers who fought and died during World War II. However, during the pandemic, it faced another setback when tourism activities were suspended causing the cessation of regular ferry tours and hotel operations. In response, Travel and Tours Guia Del Mar has spearheaded efforts to revive tourism on the island, ensuring that the memory of those who sacrificed remains alive and honored.
This Special Joining Tour, titled "The Retaking," marks the beginning of a series of events dedicated to commemorating the significant historical events on the island of Corregidor. Our esteemed guest speaker is widely recognized as an authority on the island's history. With his profound knowledge and expertise, he is sought after by historians, writers and VIP guests.
Mr. Tony Feredo is a renowned subject matter expert on the Harbor Defenses of Manila Bay and WWII campaigns in the Philippines. Having authored / co-authored, and ghost-authored numerous books, articles and monographs, as well as appearing in live and online presentations, thus solidifying his reputation as a foremost authority. As a mentor to me and my colleagues in the tour guiding profession, he has generously shared his wealth of knowledge, guiding us through leaps and bounds in our understanding of the island's history and significance. We are honored to have him join us for this special occasion.
