CEBU CITY
While Cebu entices travelers with the promise of the ideal island vacation, at the heart of it all is a thriving metropolis with a highly developed metropolitan landscape.
Cebu, a long and thin island in Central Visayas (Region VII), is where the past and the future meet. Its strong tourism business relies on the island's stunning coves, lovely beaches, friendly residents, and rich history, as proven by multiple daily flights to Cebu. But the nation's capital, affectionately known as the Queen City of the South, is a regional powerhouse that drives the expansion of the country's economy.
Flights to Cebu depart from the recently renovated Mactan-Cebu International Airport. About 15 km east of the Cebu city center, in Lapu-Lapu City on Mactan Island, is where you'll find this airport.
The popular island of Mactan, connected to Metro Cebu by two bridges, is a coral island with plenty of wonderful beaches and diving locations, as well as a variety of lodgings. A common activity for visitors to Mactan is island hopping in the Bohol Strait.
Cebu City, a key center for business outsourcing such as call centers, keeps the province's growth engine running. It has a vibrant nightlife, shopping malls, and gastronomic destinations, like many Asian cities. Although there are plans to develop a Bus Rapid Transit system to assist the city become less congested, you should be prepared for some traffic as a result of all this progress.

• Cebu is home to a number of attractions for Catholic pilgrims like the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño and Magellan’s Cross.
• Travel outside the city and head to the coastal town of Oslob, which is a hotspot for spotting whale sharks, known locally as butanding or tuki.
