Centuries of Devotion, or as we say in Naga City, “Mga Siglo nin Debosyon”

In the heart of Naga City, where centuries of devotion to Our Lady of Peñafrancia—also known as Ina—have shaped the spirit of its people, the Traslacion stands as a profound testament to faith. On September 13, 2024, hundreds of thousands of Bicolanos gathered, their hearts united in prayer and purpose, to honor their beloved Ina. It is not merely the procession of the holy image that brings life to this sacred tradition, but the collective hands, hearts, and devotion of the faithful, breathing life into every moment.

Through my lens, I strive to capture the essence of the Traslacion—the devotees, the lifeblood of this pilgrimage—who, through their unwavering faith, embody the soul of Naga City. Their dedication, their prayers, and their hope.

Naga City’s beauty is not found solely in its landscapes but in the fervor of its people. It is revealed in every whispered prayer, every hand raised in supplication, and every step taken in devotion. Through these humble images, I seek to capture the heartbeat of Bicol—rooted in faith, lived through its people, and bound by the sanctity of their shared devotion.

🚨 TOURISM ADVISORY 🚨

In anticipation of Typhoon Pepito and upon the recommendation of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC), we are taking precautionary steps to ensure the safety of everyone in Naga City. As a result, all tourism activities at Mount Isarog Natural Park (MINP) — including access to its waterfalls and hiking trails — with the advice of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office, are temporarily suspended starting November 15, 2024 until conditions are deemed safe. Your well-being is our utmost priority, and we will be monitoring the situation closely.

Four Churches in Naga included in the List of Pilgrim Churches for Jubilee 2025

The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has designated the following churches in the Archdiocese of Caceres as official Pilgrim Churches for the Jubilee Year 2025:

1. St. John the Evangelist Parish (Naga Metropolitan Cathedral)
2. Basilica Minore of Our Lady of Peñafrancia
3. Our Lady of Peñafrancia Shrine
4. Archdioceasan and Parish of St. Jude Thaddeus

The Jubilee Year is a time for spiritual renewal, forgiveness, and celebrating one's faith in which millions of pilgrims will be traveling to designated destinations worldwide to participate in this event and seek plenary indulgence.

ICYMI: FOUR NAGA CITY PILGRIMAGE CHURCHES INCLUDED IN JUBILEE 2025 ⛪ | Considered as one of the most significant events for pilgrims all over the world, the Ordinary Jubilee is set to happen in 2025 lasting from December 24, 2024 (Christmas Eve) until the Epiphany in January 2026. In line, four pilgrimage churches from the Archdiocese of Cáceres have been designated to participate among the many sacred sites in the Philippines as released by the CBCP last Nov. 4, 2024:

1. Basilica Minore of Our Lady of Peñafrancia (Balatas Rd., Naga City)
2. Our Lady of Peñafrancia Parish (Peñafrancia Avenue, Naga City)

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS | MUSEO REHAB

When the Waters Rose, They Rose to the Challenge.

Just as the historical archives of the Museo del Seminario Conciliar de Nueva Caceres were at risk of becoming waterlogged relics due to Typhoon Kristine, our brave student volunteers from the College of Architecture from the Universty of Nueva Caceres jumped into action. Armed with face masks, gloves, kitchen paper towel and sheer determination, they waded through the muddy, flooded halls, rescuing artifacts and stacks of precious documents—every piece a fragment of our shared history in Bikol.

As the waters rose, so did their spirits, forming a brigade that ferried our past to safety. They are currently saving thousands of pages, page by page, each one a testament to the power of community and the love of culture.

But the work isn’t over! We need more volunteers to help with ongoing restoration efforts. Do you have a passion for preservation, a spirit of adventure, and a heart for history? Join us! Let’s make sure these stories stay safe for the future, together. We also hope that National Historical Commission of the Philippines or National Commission for Culture and the Arts could help us preserve the oldest collections of manuscripts, books and artifacts in the Bikol Region.

Going Back to the 80's! Arevalo Studio was the go-to place for photography in Naga, capturing countless yearbook photos for students. Located on what was then Igualdad, now known as Jaime Hernandez Avenue, it holds a special place in a lot of Naguenos.

The Universidad de Sta. Isabel is known as the first normal school for girls in Southeast Asia. It also houses the Museo Historico de Universidad de Sta. Isabel that has seven galleries with exhibits telling the history of the university in different time periods, from its foundation to the spread of Catholicism in Nueva Caceres, and the impacts of war-time events to the university. The museum also houses several sacred relics. The walls of the Museo Historico de Universidad de Sta. Isabel whisper tales of faith and resilience at the time of war as well as dedication and innovation for academic excellence.
