Travel safely, everyone. The Wushan coronavirus respiratory disease is a contagious disease that moves from one country to another in this modern era of air transportation!

Take safety precautions and if the travel is not important, choose to cancel it and remain at home.

Anyway, sharing the following info:

A PERSON COULD BE AT RISK IF THEY HAVE:

👉- Fever and symptoms of lower respiratory illness, such as coughing or difficulty breathing, after traveling to Wuhan or having close contact with someone who was ill and is now under investigation for the virus in the past two weeks.

👉- Fever or symptoms of lower respiratory illness after having close contact in the past two weeks with someone who's been confirmed to have the virus.

The CDC defined "close contact" as being within about 6 feet (1.8 m) "or within the room or care area" of a person with the coronavirus for a prolonged period without appropriate protective clothing, or "having direct contact with infectious secretions" of a person with the virus without protective clothing.

WHO ARE MOST AT RISK?

👉 Coronaviruses like 2019-nCoV are particularly dangerous for people who have weaker immune systems, like young children and older adults.

👉 There are no vaccines to protect people from contracting a coronavirus. Pets are also at risk of catching coronaviruses, which can lead to disease and even death.

HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF:

Here are the CDC's and other healthcare experts' suggestions for how to protect yourself from the virus while travelling:

👉 Try to avoid contact with people who display symptoms similar to those of pneumonia or the common cold, like coughing or a runny nose.

👉 Don't touch your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.

👉 Wash your hands frequently with soap and water, and scrub for at least 20 seconds.

👉 Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer when possible.

👉 Avoid animals and animal markets.

A Touching Christmas Story

I hurried into the local department store to grab some last minute Christmas gifts. I looked at all the people and grumbled to myself. I would be in here forever and I just had so much to do. Christmas was beginning to become such a drag. I kinda wished that I could just sleep through Christmas. But I hurried the best I could through all the people to the toy department. Once again I kind of mumbled to myself at the prices of all these toys. And wondered if the grandkids would even play with them.

I found myself in the doll aisle. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a little boy about 5 holding a lovely doll. He kept touching her hair and he held her so gently. I could not seem to help myself. I just kept looking over at the little boy and wondered who the doll was for. I watched him turn to a woman and he called his aunt by name and said, "Are you sure I don't have enough money" She replied a bit impatiently, "You know that you don't have enough money for it. The aunt told the little boy not to go anywhere that she had to go get some other things and would be back in a few minutes. And then she left the aisle. The boy continued to hold the doll.

After a bit I asked the boy who the doll was for. He said, "It is the doll my sister wanted so badly for Christmas. She just knew that Santa would bring it." I told him that maybe Santa was going to bring it. He said "No, Santa can't go where my sister is...I have to give the doll to my Momma to take to her". I asked him where his sister was.

He looked at me with the saddest eyes and said "She has gone to be with Jesus". My Daddy says that Momma is going to have to go be with her. My heart nearly stopped beating.

Then the boy looked at me again and said, "I told my Daddy to tell Momma not to go yet. I told him to tell her to wait till I got back from the store". Then he asked me if I wanted to see his picture. I told him I would love to. He pulled out some pictures he'd had taken at the front of the store. He said "I want my Momma to take this with her so she don't ever forget me." "I love my Momma so very much and I wish she did not have to leave me". "But Daddy says she will need to be with my sister."

I saw that the little boy had lowered his head and had grown so very quiet. While he was not looking I reached into my purse and pulled out a handful of bills. I asked the little boy, "Shall we count that money one more time?" He grew excited and said "Yes, I just know it has to be enough". So I slipped my money in with his and we began to count it.

Of course it was plenty for the doll. He softly said, "Thank you Jesus for giving me enough money." Then the boy said "I just asked Jesus to give me enough money to buy this doll so Momma can take it with her to give to my sister." "And he heard my prayer". "I wanted to ask him for enough to buy my Momma a white rose, but I didn't ask him, but he gave me enough to buy the doll and a rose for my Momma."

"She loves white roses so very very much".

In a few minutes the aunt came back and I wheeled my cart away. I could not keep from thinking about the little boy as I finished my shopping in a totally different spirit than when I had started. And I kept remembering a story I had seen in the newspaper several days earlier about a drunk driver hitting a car and killing a little girl and the Mother was in serious condition. The family was deciding on rather to remove the life support. Now surely this little boy did not belong with that story.

Two days later I read in the paper where the family had disconnected the life support and the young woman had died. I could not forget the little boy and just kept wondering if the two were somehow connected. Later that day, I could not help myself and I went out and bought some white roses and took them to the funeral home where the young woman was. And there she was holding a lovely white rose, the beautiful doll, and the picture of the little boy in the store.

I left there in tears, my life changed forever. The love that little boy had for his little sister and his mother was overwhelming. And in a split second a drunk driver had ripped the life of that little boy to pieces. "We make a living by what we get; We make a life by what we give."

"You have to be always drunk. That's all there is to it—it's the only way. So as not to feel the horrible burden of time that breaks your back and bends you to the earth, you have to be continually drunk.

But on what? Wine, poetry or virtue, as you wish. But be drunk.

And if sometimes, on the steps of a palace or the green grass of a ditch, in the mournful solitude of your room, you wake again, drunkenness already diminishing or gone, ask the wind, the wave, the star, the bird, the clock, everything that is flying, everything that is groaning, everything that is rolling, everything that is singing, everything that is speaking. . .ask what time it is and wind, wave, star, bird, clock will answer you: "It is time to be drunk! So as not to be the martyred slaves of time, be drunk, be continually drunk! On wine, on poetry or on virtue as you wish."

GIVE:

PEACE
May our actions
and our words
be a reminder
in the chaos of things
that even while we wait
there is grace
and freedom
to trust
hope,
and breathe.

HARMONY
May we be the ones
who remind others
of the beautiful music
we can make
when we bring
our voices together.

LOVE
There are many ways to give love,
but it does not have to overwhelm us.
Let us give
friendship
compassion
appreciation
closeness
care
…and let the list go on and on!
Let us fill these things with the gift of love.

BELONGING
May we choose
to be the ones
who make space
at the table
for others.

HOPE
May we be the ones
who remind others
that “maybe, after everything I’ve been through
there is still good in this world.”

WARMTH
In a world
that often feels so cold
to so many,
may we choose
to be the ones
to give kindness to those
who may not have
many reminders
that kindness still exists.

COMMUNITY
Far too many people
will feel lonely tonight.
Perhaps we can be the ones
who can show
what family looks like.

EMPATHY
“Let me hold the door for you.
I may have never walked in your shoes,
but I can see your soles are worn
your strength is torn
under the weight of a story
I have never lived before.
Let me hold the door for you
it is the least I can do.”

SUPPORT
May we be
the shoulders
the hands
the ears
ever-reminding
one another:
“You are not alone here.”

TIME
Time is something
we can never
get back,
so when we give time
to one another,
It is the gift
that truly lasts.

SPACE
Let us make room
for one another’s presence,
stories,
and laughter,
let our moments together
be a reminder:
“We need you here.
You matter.”

FUN
May we be the ones
who make room for play,
adventure, and
unapologetic, childlike joy.
May we dare to be excited.
May we dare to make noise.

Giving is not about a few people saving everyone else but about showing one another what Love looks like. This may seem impossible amidst despair and fear, but let us continue to remind one another “you belong here” in whatever way we can. You and I need this and others, too.

"I know life is hard. I know sometimes you feel like giving up: on people and on yourself. I know you have good days and bad days but more bad than good or so it seems. I know every day you question yourself "what is this all for?" "am I making the right choices?" "am I supposed to be here, now?" I know, you have more questions than answers and most of the time you don't even know how to explain them. I know, life is hard, I know but you have to keep going. you have to rise above the waters of your soul, and bloom, no matter how hot the fire is. no matter how many arrows you carry on your back. the times are hard, I know, believe me, but you're a goddamn warrior, a soldier filled with both pain and love. and life, well, life is just another beast you were meant to tame and there is no one better for the job, other than you."

"How lovely pearls look and appear.

Yet, we need to know that they are the product of PAIN. Every pearl is the result of an oyster that has been wounded by a grain of sand that entered inside. An oyster that has not been wounded cannot produce pearls.

In the inner part of the oyster is a substance called " nácar " and when a grain of sand penetrates into the oyster, it is incredible, it covers it around with layers nácar to protect itself. As a result of this process, it forms a beautiful and bright pearl.

Now,

Have you felt wounded by the words or attitude of anyone?

Have you been accused of saying things that you never did?

Have been your ideas been rejected or scorned?

Have you been blamed for actions you didn’t commit?

Were your attitude towards certain situations misunderstood?

Have you ever suffered the blows of indifference and premature judgment?

Have you been hurt by precisely those people you least expected would?

Were you not valued as you really deserve it?

So, FORGIVE and make your wound a pearl.

Cover your wounds with several layers of love.

Remember that the more covered your wound is, the less pain will you feel.

On the other hand, if not for the cover of love, the wound will remain open. You will hurt more and more each day. You will be corrupted with resentment and bitterness, and worse still, never heal.

In our society, we see many oysters that appear beautiful despite the burden they carry. Not because they have not been injured or were unaffected by the things that came their way, but because they knew how to forgive, understand and transform the pain into a pearl.

A pearl is a wound healed by love." 🥰

01/12/2019

During the waning years of the depression in a small southeastern Idaho community, I used to stop by Mr. Miller's roadside stand for farm-fresh produce as the season made it available. Food and money were still extremely scarce and bartering was used, extensively.

One particular day Mr. Miller was bagging some early potatoes for me. I noticed a small boy, delicate of bone and feature, ragged but clean, hungrily appraising a basket of freshly picked green peas. I paid for my potatoes but was also drawn to the display of fresh green peas. I am a pushover for creamed peas and new potatoes. Pondering the peas, I couldn't help overhearing the conversation between Mr. Miller and the ragged boy next to me.

"Hello, Barry. How are you today?"

"H'lo, Mr. Miller. Fine, thank ya. Jus' admirin' them peas . . . sure look good."

"They are good, Barry. How's your Ma?"

"Fine. Gittin' stronger alla' time."

"Good. Anything I can help you with?"

"No, sir. Jus' admirin' them peas."

"Would you like to take some home?"

"No, sir. Got nuthin' to pay for 'em with."

"Well, what have you to trade me for some of those peas?"

"Here 'tis. She's a dandy."

"I can see that. Hmmmm, only thing is this one is blue and I sort of go for red. Do you have a red one like this at home?"

"Not 'zackley . . . . . but almost."

"Tell you what. Take this sack of peas home with you, and next trip this way, let me look at that red marble."

"Sure will. Thanks, Mr. Miller."

Mrs. Miller, who had been standing nearby, came over to help me. With a smile she said, "There are two other boys like him in our community. All three are in very poor circumstances. Jim just loves to bargain with them for peas, apples, tomatoes or whatever. When they come back with their red marbles, and they always do, he decides he doesn't like red after all and he sends them home with a bag of produce for a green marble or perhaps an orange one, or a green . . .

I left the stand, smiling to myself, impressed with this man.

A short time later I moved to Colorado, but I never forgot the story of this man, the boys and their bartering. Several years went by, each more rapid than the previous one.

Just recently I had occasion to visit some old friends in that Idaho community and while I was there learned that Mr. Miller had died. They were having his viewing that evening, and knowing my friends wanted to go, agreed to accompany them.

Upon our arrival at the mortuary, we fell into line to meet the relatives of the deceased and to offer whatever words of comfort we could.

Ahead of us in line were three young men. One was in an army uniform and the other two wore nice haircuts, dark suits and white shirts, very professional looking. They approached Mrs. Miller, standing smiling and composed, by her husband's casket. Each of the young men hugged her, kissed her on the cheek, spoke briefly with her and moved on to the casket. Her misty, light blue eyes followed them as, one by one, each young man stopped briefly and placed his own warm hand over the cold, pale hand in the casket. Each left the mortuary, awkwardly, wiping his eyes.

Our turn came to meet Mrs. Miller. I told her who I was and mentioned the story she had told me about the marbles. Eyes glistening, she took my hand and led me to the casket.

"Those three young men who just left were the boys I told you about. They just told me how they appreciated the things Jim 'traded' them. Now, at last, when Jim could not change his mind about color or size . . . they came to pay their debt. We've never had a great deal of the wealth of this world," she confided, "but, right now, Jim would consider himself the richest man in Idaho."

With loving gentleness, she lifted the lifeless fingers of her deceased husband. Resting underneath were three magnificently shiny red marbles.

MORAL: We will not be remembered by how much we gained in our life, but by our kind deeds.

"Try to imagine a life without timekeeping. You probably can’t. You know the month, the year, the day of the week. There is a clock on your wall or the dashboard of your car. You have a schedule, a calendar, a time for dinner or a movie. Yet all around you, timekeeping is ignored. Birds are not late. A dog does not check its watch. Deer do not fret over passing birthdays. Man alone chimes the hour. And, because of this, man alone suffers a paralyzing fear that no other creature endures. A fear of time running out."

In a bar in Buenos Aires

I am with the Venezuelan writer Dulce Rojas, drinking coffee in Buenos Aires; we are discussing the idea of peace and how removed it has become from the human heart. Dulce then tells me the following story.

A king offered a large prize to the artist who could best represent the idea of peace. A lot of painters sent their works to the palace, depicting woods at dusk, quiet rivers, children playing on the sand, rainbows in the sky, drops of dew on a rose petal.

The king examined everything that was sent to him but ended up choosing only two works. The first showed a tranquil lake that perfectly mirrored the imposing mountains surrounding it and the blue sky above. The sky was dotted with small white clouds and, if you looked closely, in the left-hand corner of the lake there stood a small house with one window open and smoke rising from the chimney - the sign that a frugal but tasty supper was being prepared.

The second painting was also of mountains, but these were bleak and stony with sharp, sheer peaks. Above the mountains, the sky was implacably dark, and from the heavy clouds fell lightning, hail and torrential rain. The painting was totally out of harmony with the other submissions.

---However, a closer look revealed a bird's nest lodged in a crack in one of those inhospitable rocks. In the midst of the violent roaring of the storm, a swallow was calmly sitting on its nest. ---

When he gathered his court together, the king chose the second picture as the one that best expressed the idea of peace.

He explained: 'Peace is not what we find in a place that is free of noise, problems, and hard work; peace is what allows us to preserve the calm in our hearts, even in the most adverse situations. That is its true and only meaning.' ❤️
