THE PERANAKAN MUSEUM

The Peranakan Museum houses the world's finest and most comprehensive collection of Peranakan artefacts, representing a unique cultural tradition – fusing ethnic Chinese, Malay and Indian elements – indigenous to Singapore and Southeast Asia. Its rich material legacy and heritage are enhanced by state-of-the-art display technology, and interactive educational exhibits for children.
Aspects of Peranakan life from cradle to grave are explored in ten permanent galleries, with highlights including the elaborate 12-day Peranakan wedding, prominent Peranakans in Singapore's history, as well as Peranakan food and feasting. Visitors are also provided a glimpse of how modern-day Peranakans have evolved with their culture.
The museum is housed in the former Tao Nan School campus, a National Monument. The building, completed in 1912, housed the first modern Hokkien school to be founded in the Straits Settlements. It features a neoclassical design inspired by the French Renaissance.

DOLPHIN ISLAND!

Meet the magnificent Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins – some of the most fascinating marine mammals of the oceans! Dolphin Island offers a range of programmes that will give you the opportunity to meet them up-close.

Our unique programmes give you the chance to interact with the dolphins, which will be an unforgettable experience. More importantly, it will inspire visitors to a deeper understanding of marine life, and to discover more about dolphins through “engagement learning”. Our marine mammal trainers and hosts will share knowledge about dolphins, their habitats, diets, anatomies and migration patterns.

We will also share what we’re doing in the areas of research and veterinary care to give you an idea of what’s being done to protect the dolphins. We can look forward to building a more sustainable marine environment together.

Dolphin Adventure

Designed for adventure seekers and those looking for a bit more action, the Dolphin Adventure programme will take you on a journey into the depths of a lagoon and let you experience the thrill being propelled through the water by dolphins. 28/11/2016

The Tiger Sky Tower, previously known as Carlsberg Sky Tower, is the highest observation tower in Singapore. It is located in the Imbiah Lookout zone in the centre of Sentosa Island.

The tower has a height of 110 metres (360 ft) above ground level, or about 36 floors tall — and an elevation of 131 metres (430 ft) above sea level. The tower was completed in 2004, and is owned by C. Melchers GmbH & Co.

At ground level, visitors enter a large disc-shaped air-conditioned cabin fitted with glass windows all round. The cabin revolves slowly for views as it ascends the tower.

From the top one can view the entire length of Singapore's skyline and a panoramic view of the island. On a clear day, one may even be able to see at part of Johor Bahru and Indonesia's skyline.

Construction[edit]

The Sky Tower was manufactured by HUSS Park Attractions of Bremen, Germany. The Sky Tower was fabricated within 6 months at HUSS's factory in Europe.

Management[edit]

Sky Tower Pte Ltd is a project conceived by Melchers Project Management Pte Ltd.

Melchers Project Management, being the managing shareholder of Sky Tower Pte Ltd, runs the daily operations of the Carlsberg Sky Tower in close co-operation with Sentosa Leisure Group (SLG). SLG is Sky Tower’s Operations, Marketing, Sales and Ticketing agent.

The Sky Tower opened to public on 7 February 2004. Carlsberg was the name sponsor of the Sky Tower. However, in 2008, the name sponsor was changed to Tiger Beer.

Breakdowns[edit]

On 11 June 2010, the tower was closed following a mechanical fault. It was reopened on 8 July after about more than 100 test rides.[1]

On 23 July 2010, the tower stopped, leaving 11 people stranded. They were rescued after staff reached them through a central stairwell. The fault was caused by an uneven curvature on the track which affected the balance of the cabin. The ride was re-opened on 30 July 2010.[1]

The beautiful the world and nature can be seen thru the wing of the Butterfly
by—Daniel Tan

“Good collection of species”
It is very educational for students who are interested in this field. A great collection!!
by—Lakshman, Colombo - Sri Lanka

Butterflies are beautiful, flying insects with large scaly wings. Butterflies are very good fliers. Butterflies can only fly if their body temperature is above 86 degrees.

CUTIE INSECTS

Beetles can support & carry 850 times their own weight. Like all insects, beetles' bodies are divided into three sections: the head, the thorax, and the abdomen.
Stick Insect can sometimes reach over 13 inches (33cm long). Stick insect can reproduce parthenogenetically without the need for males.

Scorpions are tough. Some species are able to change their metabolic rate, allowing them live on one meal per year and even survive being stored in a freezer overnight.

From big beetles to enchanting (and what some culture believe to be lucky) ladybirds, to exotic species with long names that most of us find hard to pronounce; you can find them all here on display at our unique Insect museum.

Whether you're a big kid, a little kid or simply a nature lover, you'll be absolutely fascinated as you moves around an explore nature vast range of incredible creatures.

New Role of the Bumboats

The bumboats were once used as a means of transporting goods and cargo back in the early days of Singapore history. Originating from the 1600s in Europe, these boats are very different from the earlier versions which had sails, were powered by oars or guided by long poles to move them up and down the rivers.

As run-down as they may sound, don't look down on these bumboats. They were vital in driving trade activities on the Singapore River for over a hundred and fifty years as they carried cargo from one destination to the next.

Years have passed and Singapore is preserving the good old days. Now, the bumboats are used for bringing passengers on the river cruise to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the waterfront.

Landmarks along Singapore River

Taking a leisurely ride on the river cruise will take you past the landmarks of the Rafffles' Landing Site, Asian Civilisations Museum, row of old shophouses along Boat Quay, Fullerton Hotel, Esplanade Singapore, The Merlion Park, Singapore Flyer and the latest attraction Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort.

A day ride lets you soak up the sun and feel the breeze blowing through your hair as you sit on board the bumboat with ongoing live commentaries for an even more enhancing experience!

A night ride on the River Cruise is similar to that of the day ride, minus the discomfort of the sunny heat. In place of the bright sunlight, a dark blue sky shadows your journey down the riverbanks, giving you opportunities for some stargazing at the same time. Whether you decide on taking a day or night ride on the Singapore River Cruise, one thing's for sure - you'll be embarking on an experience like never before.

But for those of you are still contemplating on which one you should take, I'd strongly suggest for a night cruise. Without the worries of the scorching hot weather or the glaring sun, a night ride along the Singapore River is actually relaxing, romantic, and mesmerizing - taking you away from the hustle and bustle of city life, while you're still in the city! How awesome is that?
