A Journey Through the Wild West Coast with My Dad

In the early 2000s, I had the privilege of being a bush pilot on North Vancouver Island. My favorite flights were the milk-runs or mail-runs—essential services connecting remote logging camps, fish farms, villages, marinas, and resorts to the urban world.

One of the highlights? My father joined me on one of these flights! 🚤✈️ These photos were taken around 2001 during my time working out of Port McNeill. The scenery was nothing short of breathtaking—rivers, inlets, glaciers, dense coastal forests, and wildlife like grizzly bears, seals, whales, and eagles, which we saw almost daily.

But what truly made it special was the community—the hardworking, like-minded people you’d meet along the way. Being a bush pilot wasn’t just a job; it was an adventure surrounded by the best characters you could imagine.

Flying the rugged West Coast of Canada in my mid-20s will always be one of my most cherished memories. Truly, some of the best days of my life!
