LOOK : 👀 The Philippines’ tourism sector has demonstrated remarkable growth, achieving ₱712 billion in visitor receipts from January 1 to December 15, 2024. This figure represents a 119% recovery compared to the ₱600 billion recorded in 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Key Highlights:
• Increased Average Stay: Tourists are now staying over 11 nights, up from the previous average of nine nights in 2019.
• Repeat Visitors: Over 70% of tourists are repeat visitors, indicating sustained interest in the country’s attractions.
• Employment Growth: The tourism sector employed 16.4 million Filipinos, accounting for 34% of the national workforce, with regions like CALABARZON, NCR, and Region III leading in employment figures.

Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco emphasized that these achievements underscore tourism’s pivotal role in generating livelihoods and uplifting communities nationwide. The Department of Tourism (DOT) has shifted its focus from merely increasing visitor numbers to enhancing quality tourism indicators, such as longer stays, repeat visits, and increased spending.

Despite challenges like visa delays, economic pressures, and geopolitical issues, the DOT has implemented reforms, including the Cruise Visa Waiver program and e-visa systems for key markets, to sustain and further boost the tourism industry’s growth.

These developments highlight the resilience and potential of the Philippine tourism sector as a significant contributor to the nation’s economy.

Several Italian towns and regions are offering financial incentives to attract new residents, particularly those under 40, to counteract declining populations and revitalize local economies. Notable examples include:
• Calabria: This southern Italian region offers up to €28,000 (approximately $30-31,000) to individuals under 40 who relocate to villages with populations under 2,000. Recipients are required to move within 90 days and either start a business that benefits the local economy or fill existing job openings.
• Presicce, Puglia: The town of Presicce in the Puglia region offers up to €30,000 (around $32,000) to new residents who purchase a house in its historic center. This initiative aims to rejuvenate the town’s population and preserve its cultural heritage.
• Sardinia: The island of Sardinia provides grants of up to €15,000 (approximately $16,200) to individuals willing to move to villages with fewer than 3,000 inhabitants. The funds are intended for purchasing or renovating homes, encouraging population growth in rural areas.

These programs are part of broader efforts across Italy to address demographic challenges by attracting younger populations to rural and underpopulated areas.
