The rainy season is here but if you're still looking for adventure, then you must see this new eco-tourism site in Palawan.

Located in the village of Tagabinet in Puerto Princesa City, the Hundred Caves site is surrounded by trees that give tourists cool breeze and a refreshing vibe.

At the foot of the cave, visitors are oriented about climbing and are given medical and safety gear.

Inside the cave, trekkers will see various rock formations while more adventurous trekkers can go try spelunking.

Rappelling inside the Hundred Caves may soon be available too, depending on the assessment of the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD) and the community.

While they welcome everyone to see the cave, the PCSD reminds tourists to follow rules and regulations to protect the beauty of the site.

"Hindi lang yan pagpunta rito na, okay let's go pasok na lahat. E masisira naman yung kweba. Dapat bago natin papapasukin ang lahat kapag naka-lay down na tayo ng rules and regulations and cave etiquettes," said PCSD spokesperson Jovic Fabello.

The City has a total of 115,610 hectares of watershed areas of which five watersheds have major river basins and six have medium-sized river basins.

The five river basins with the largest area include Babuyan River (25% of the total catchment area)Montible River (20%), Langogan River (14%), Inagawan River (12%) and Bacungan River (10%). Irawan watershed, which is the main source of water supply in the City, has a small catchment area comprising only 3% of the total catchment area.

Development of groundwater in the City proper to supply part of its water requirements has limited potential because of low yield and partly salt-water intrusion into the fresh water aquifers. However, groundwater abstraction has a better potential in Sta. Monica, Irawan and Iwahig. (http://puertoprincesa.ph/?q=about-our-city/water-resources)

Irawan Eco-Park:

Puerto Princesa, Palawan has so much to offer tourists new and old. One of which is the Irawan Eco Park, a place with tons of surprises for all ages (β€œirawan” means β€œlamp” in Filipino). Until now, there are indigenous tribes that exist on the site who still live in traditional bamboo houses. Also, with the cooperation of Irawan Eco Park administration and the local government for the environmental protection of the Irawan Watershed, the place maintains a wonderful and clean source of water to be used in Puerto Princesa. This river is also essential for the tribes’ survival and for visitors’ leisure.
