-Coron Palawan

Some of our favorite places in the whole world are the islands commonly known as Coron. We've visited over 80 countries all over the world, but when my mind drifts to our favorite places, it always ends up here. This is a special place.

What has become most well known for this cluster of islands is a handful of shipwrecks from WWII that are permanently buried off the coast of Coron. Coron is just as majestic above the sea, and is home to one of the most photographed spots in the Philippines. In Coron, Philippines, the deeper you search the more stunning sights you'll discover.

There are more stories to tell in an archipelago like Palawan than just beautiful islands of limestone, deep forests, and varied native wildlife. A destination steeped in history and culture is beyond its naturescapes. In this City Tour you should learn about those!

-El Nido Palawan

The Bacuit Archipelago offshore's spectacular limestone formations hold the postcard vendors in operation, but the fine beaches in and around this laid-back northern town of Palawan are of equal appeal. Hey, it's really good some places do.

Forty-five minutes by motorbike north of El Nido town is Nacpan Beach, a beautiful three-kilometer slice of sand and a great swimming spot. This place remains firmly laid-back – think rustic beach shacks that serve delicious seafood and shakes – even as hostels and choices for glamping are proliferating. A few clicks north of Nacpan, the luscious Duli Beach offers a less crowded option and from December to March has excellent surf.

Maremegmeg Beach (aka Las Cabanas) is popular for sunsets and trendy happy-hour hangouts such as Beach Shack and Maremegmeg Beach Bar, which is a 20-minute ride south of El Nido. The standard El Nido island-hopping tours come here, but a better way to arrive is on your own by sea kayak from El Nido or Corong-Corong Beach, 5km south of El Nido. Allow time to stop and snorkel on the way.

Further adventurous kayakers should move on their way to Bacuit Bay to discover Cadlao Island, which boasts an endless supply of white-sand beaches that you'll all have for you. Virtually every Bacuit Archipelago island boasts a great or two beaches. Get an island-hopping day trip to reach a bunch of these in one swoop out of El Nido.
