Reflecting on the statistical insights from 2022 released mid-2023, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) noted a staggering 102 million domestic trips, contributing an impressive PHP1.5 trillion to domestic tourism expenditure. Among the overall PHP1.87 trillion in internal tourism expenditure, inclusive of spending by foreign visitors and Filipinos residing abroad, a substantial PHP1.5 trillion was directly attributed to domestic tourism spending. This economic contribution stemmed from expenses by local visitors, encompassing both domestic trips and components of international travel occurring within the country's borders.

"I booked [three round trip] tickets: for my mom, my friend, and myself because we really want to visit Siargao. That would also be an early birthday celebration for my mom's birthday next year," Manuel explained.

"All along, I thought I booked the right flight. But when I reviewed the itinerary, that's [when] I realized na mali ako nang na-book," he added.

Manuel said that during that time, he was in a haste to book round-trip tickets as he was catching up on a promo by a local airline.

"Magkatunog [naman] kasi talaga yung Siargao at Surigao," he stated in jest.

He revealed that it was supposed to be their first time going to Siargao, but he mentioned that they would still proceed with their equally first-time trip to Surigao.

"Based naman sa mga suggestions, mukhang kaya rin naman mag-Surigao, so ilalaban na namin. Baka gawin na lang naming side trip ang Siargao," Manuel went on to say.
