JEPOY AND THE MAGIC CIRCLE is a fantasy musical which introduces audiences to legendary Filipino characters and rare Filipino animals through costumes, songs, dances, simple dialogue, and puppetry. People will get the chance to know more about these characters by conversing with some of them in the audience participation portions of the show. Through these conversations the people are reminded that the forests and the earth need caring for. Let's enter a world of fantasy and magic as we get to see a bit more about our own stories of heritage.

DAY 7 of the Philippine Choral Music Exposure Trip Program

Sunday morning started with a sit-in rehearsal at the Christ the King Parish Church with the Novo Concertante Manila led by Dr. Arwin Tan.

After lunch, they attended another 2 sets of performances in the Madz et al Festival where they met Cyro Moral and Anna Abeleda-Piquero. Their last post-concert discussion was led by Roijin Suarez.

Special acknowledgement to Sebastian Trinidad of the Mandaluyong Children's Choir for the tickets they provided for the afternoon session of the festival.

DAY 6 of the Philippine Choral Music Exposure Trip Program

Saturday morning started with a sit-in rehearsal at the Union Church of Manila with the HYMNOS Choir led by Dr. Joel Navarro.

After lunch, they attended 2 sets of performances in the Madz et al Festival. Afterwhich, they had dinner with Arjay Viray for a post-concert discussions where they talked about Gesualdo's madrigal, DLSU Chorale's Iddemdem Malida, and SCL's Las Siete Palabras - among other things.

DAY 5 of the Philippine Choral Music Exposure Trip Program

Started off with a lecture session by Dr. Joel Navarro on The Evolving Sound of Philippine Choirs. In the afternoon, they got to spend time looking at resources available at the UP College of Music Library.

In the evening, participants got to attend their first set of Madz et al Festival performances. Afterwhich, they got to spend some time with Anthony Go Villanueva over dinner for a post-concert discussion.

Participants also got to meet Dr. Jonas Baes, Dr. Ed Manguiat, and Mark Anthony Carpio. Special thanks to Dr. Beverly Shangkuan-Cheng for accommodating us in her schedule.

DAY 4 of the Philippine Choral Music Exposure Trip Program

Started the day with Mark Carpio as he assisted members of the Junior Philippine Conductors Association as they prepare for their conducting competition. In the afternoon, the wonderful panel discussion about Filipino choral music compositions and composers with National Artist for Music Dr. Ramon Santos, Prof. Katz Trangco, and Prof. Jude Roldan.

Participants of the program were also very fortunate today as they were able to sit-in at 2 separate choir rehearsals -- the Philippine Madrigal Singers with Mark Anthony Carpio at the UP College of Music and the Ateneo Chamber Singers with Jonathan Velasco at the Ateneo de Manila University.

Special thanks to the UP Center for Ethnomusicology for providing us with a venue for our afternoon panel discussion!

DAY 3 of the Philippine Choral Music Exposure Trip Program

It's a free day and no lectures were scheduled for the day. Yani brought Wasis & Mashi to Intramuros and they got to visit San Agustin Church. There, they saw the facistol which was used to display the cantorals which allowed several friars to sing looking at the big choir books with big printed music.

In the evening, participants spent time with the UP Singing Ambassadors and Dr. Edgardo Manguiat where they observed their regular rehearsal.

DAY 2 of the Philippine Choral Music Exposure Trip Program

Started the day with a Choral Reading session of various Filipino choral works with Jonathan Velasco. In the afternoon, a casual roundtable session with some officers of the Philippine Choral Directors Association and the Junior Philippine Conductors Association. In the evening, got the chance to sit-in at the rehearsal of the Collegium Vocale Manila and Dr. Beverly Shangkuan-Cheng, as they prepare for The International Bamboo Organ Festival. Ended the day with dinner at -- Jollibee!

In between the sessions, they were able to meet Dr. Chino Toledo, Dr. Raul Navarro, and Prof. Jai Sabas-Aracama. 😄

DAY 1 of the Philippine Choral Music Exposure Trip Program

Dr. Arwin Tan did an introductory lecture on Philippine Choral Music at the UP College of Music. After which, drove to the University of Santo Tomas to sit-in at the rehearsal of the University of Santo Tomas Singers with Prof. Fidel G. Calalang Jr.

Special thanks to the Junior Philippine Conductors Association, led by Rimher Manubay, and to Yani Pulido for helping us with the program!

CONDUCTORS FROM THE PHILIPPINES ARE ELIGIBLE
Scholarship Program for Conductors

Participation in the lessons of the main class for choral conducting at the Hochschule für Musik Saar with Prof. Georg Grün from May 24th to June 4th, 2023 (Arrival May 23rd / Departure June 5th2023) will be provided. Travel, board, lodging and sheet music are also part of the scholarship.

Interested candidates must submit the application form on the website www.kammerchorwettbewerb.org by February 28th, 2023.

Do you want to attend an internationally renowned masterclass but don't have the money? If your land are on the DAC list, you can apply for the Masterclass with Conducting Competition from 31 May to 4 June 2023 in Marktoberdorf. It will be led by the famous conductors Georg Grün and Gary Graden. The Masterclass with Conducting Competition is a cooperation with the Goethe Institute and the Bavarian Music Academy Marktoberdorf.
