Tacloban airport temporarily closed for emergency repairs

Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport in Tacloban City has been temporarily closed by authorities due to emergency repairs in the airport’s runway, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announced.

The CAAP issued an advisory on Wednesday, January 17, announcing that authorities have started repairing the potholes on the airport’s runway which were caused by continuous rains.

The aviation authority said it has already alerted pilots of the airport’s closure at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

“The continuing deterioration of the runway surface had to be addressed immediately for the safety of all passengers and aircrafts operating in Tacloban,” the CAAP advisory stated.

“The public is advised to monitor updates from airlines operating at the Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport for flight cancellations and flight arrangements,” the aviation authority said.
