Philippine Airlines Ends Baguio Flight, Citing Poor Sales

Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) has announced the termination of its flight from Cebu to Baguio, effective July 1, 2024, due to poor passenger traffic. The decision reflects the airline's efforts to streamline its operations and focus on more profitable routes.

“Passengers of the cancelled flight Cebu-Baguio-Cebu will be provided the necessary assistance and refund,” PAL stated, ensuring affected customers are accommodated appropriately.

PAL initiated the Cebu-Baguio route in December 2022, operating four times a week with the De Havilland Canada Dash 8 Series 400 NG aircraft. Despite the route's potential, poor passenger loads made the flights economically unviable, prompting the airline to discontinue the service.

The termination of this route is part of PAL's broader strategy to enhance operational efficiency and maintain financial health amidst a challenging aviation market.

TANSINGCO ENCOURAGES BATANGAS RESIDENTS TO REPORT ILLEGAL ALLIENS IN BI SERVICE CARAVAN

BATANGAS CITY, Philippines—Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Norman Tansingco is calling on residents of Batangas and nearby areas to report illegal aliens during the forthcoming service caravan.

Following the success of similar initiatives during earlier legs of the “Bagong Immigration” caravan, Tansingco said that community awareness and cooperation is important in protecting the country against undesirables.

“We ask the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities of foreign individuals that they encounter,” he said.

Tansingco also highlighted the importance of reporting foreign s*x predators and s*x tourists, a priority under the BI’s Project campaign.

It can be recalled that in May, BI operatives arrested seven Chinese nationals illegally working in a quarry in Taysan, Batangas.

The operation, conducted by the BI's regional intelligence unit in coordination with government intelligence agencies and local police led to the apprehension of the workers.

Tansingco stressed that community vigilance and reporting can further help the bureau locate foreigners conducting illegal activities in far-flung areas.

The fourth leg of the BI’s service caravan will take place on June 7 at the Pontefino Hotel and Residences, Pastor Village, Gulod Labac, Batangas City.

This caravan will provide expedited processing for various BI services, including tourist visa extensions, exit clearances, dual citizenship applications, and other important transactions.
