The second day marks the highlight of the Ateneo Grade School Cultural Immersion Tour: the visit to St. Aloysius' College. The eaglets were warmly welcomed by Mr. Joe El-Khoury, the Head of Junior School, their P.E. teacher, Mr. James Kouts, and Year 6 students.

A program was held to formally welcome the boys. Their Rector, Fr. Ross Jones, SJ, acknowledged the country, followed by prayers from students of both schools. The college principal, Mr. Mark Tannock, made a welcome remark. The Zipoli Choir, headed by music teacher Mr. Dominic Meager, rendered a song number. This was also when the boys performed their Itik-itik dance. A word of thanks from Ateneo's very own Mr. Jervy M. Robles was shared, along with tokens from the AGS.

Afterward, the boys visited the school's chapel with their rector, who discussed its design and architecture. It was followed by their first class for the day, music, where the boys got to sing a traditional Australian ballad. They then went to a local community park for their P.E. class in which they got to play cricket and rugby. After enjoying the games, St. Aloysius' College boys then provided and shared snacks with the AGS boys.

After having snacks, they had their art class, where they each got to draw and color on a wooden cross, which they got to bring home as a souvenir. Lessons in Australian culture and history were followed at Saint Mary MacKillop Library.

The last class for the day was ICT, in which the students were able to try the Sphero (a robotic ball). Souvenir St. Aloysius' College caps were given to the boys before departing.

The Eaglets officially kicked off their Australia cultural immersion tour on June 16th!

The boys were all eager to see Sydney's well-known attractions. Upon arrival, the group had lunch at the Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel, where everyone had fish, chicken, and chips (which they said were the best French fries they had). Afterward, they went to check out The Gap and Macquarie Lighthouse. They contemplated and had a prayer visit at St. Mary's Cathedral, where everyone was awed by its magnificent architecture. The final tour stop for the day was at the Sydney Opera House, where the boys got to see its iconic structure, together with the Harbour Bridge at night. They ended the day with a feast at their accommodations, prepared by our local Tour Guide, Robyn. The DIY burgers were the best they tasted, according to them.

The Philippines has been named among the “40 Most Beautiful Countries in the World” by the popular travel site, Conde Nast Traveler (CNTraveler).

The Southeast Asian archipelagic nation of 7,641 islands is included in the list of countries that “have it all” in terms of natural resources and was specially cited by the travel site for the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park in Palawan, the Chocolate Hills of Bohol Island, and the rice terraces of both Banaue and the Philippine Cordilleras.

Writer Caitlin Morton writes: “There are more than 7,000 islands in the Philippines, and they easily number among the most beautiful in the world. The Puerto-Princesa Subterranean River National Park in Palawan encompasses mangrove forests, one of the world’s most impressive cave systems, and an underground river. The Chocolate Hills of Bohol Island consist of an estimated 1,776 grass-covered domes that are mysteriously uniform in shape. The rice terraces of both Banaue and the Philippine Cordilleras provide panoramic views of every shade of green imaginable.”
