The TAKLOBO TOURS Operation will be suspended today, May 23, 2023 as we pay our last tribute to our ADUFOR President, Ruben R. Martin and we join his bereaved family during the interment.

[IN MEMORIAM] Davao del Norte State College mourns the passing of Mr. Ruben R. Martin, giant clam conservation advocate and president of Adecor United Fisherfolk Organization (community counterpart of DNSC in managing the Taklobo Tours in the Island Garden City of Samal).

Sir Ruben was one of the signatories of the Memorandum of Agreement that sealed the partnership of the community and DNSC in advancing giant clam conservation in the Marine Reserve Park (MRP) in Barangay Adecor and in sustaining it to become an ecotourism and livelihood initiative that benefits both people and the planet. He was also part of the pioneering local tour guides for Taklobo Tours and had served the organization for ten years.

We remember him by celebrating his leadership and commitment to leaving a better world for his community and for generations to come.

[What's New] In the Island Garden City of Samal, there are 6 different species. Tridacna gigas (biggest giant clam), Tridacna derasa, Tridacna squamosa, Tridacna maxima, Tridacna crocea and Tridacna noae. T. noae (newly resurrected species and new record in Samal Island). This is 80% of the total species found in the Philippines. With the 6 species of Giant clams present in IGACOS, the species T. squamosa and T. maxima are the most abundant species. They are widely distributed around the Island while the 4 species and the recruits of T. gigas and T. derasa were only confined in the western side, close to the Giant Clams Restocking Site.

A training on Livelihood Opportunity Identification and Intrepreneurial Mindsetting was conducted by the LGU- IGAGOS, City Investment and Tourism Office on April 26, 2022 at DNSC Hatchery, Adecor, Island Garden City of Samal. The Re-opening of Taklobo Tours: Giant Clam Conservation in Samal Island was conducted during the Earth Day Celebration on April 22,2022 at the Giant Clam Marine Reserve Park, Adecor, Kaputian District, IGACOS. The new Local Tour Guides made a blast during the Orientation who highlighted the the biology, status, rules and regulations and the indispensable role of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the conservation of Giant Clams. This was attended by its key players, Adecor United Fisherfolk Organization (represented by Vice Pres.Edgar Claros),LGU IGACOS (represented by Lludeza Quesada of the City Tourism Office) BLGU Adecor and Davao del Norte State College (represented by the College President , Dr.Joy M.Sorrosa). It was graced by the Department of Tourism Region XI and the Philippine Coast Guard. Its first guest was one female and one male who arrived earlier than the Re-opening Ceremony. We thank the TWG Members of the hardwork in supporting the Peoples Organization to re-open after two years being economic ally impacted by the Pandemic.
