Recap video of the Art workshop in Ticao Island sponsored by Museo de Ticao.
An experience of a lifetime.
On a sunny Sunday, October 13, 2024, at 8:30 in the morning, the second art workshop of Museo de Ticao took place at the residence of Mayor Francisco "Doc Kito" Altarejos on Bailon Street, San Jacinto, Ticao Island, Masbate. Titled “Basic Acrylic Painting,” the workshop was conducted by Gina Almocera-Dejumo, a self-taught Tigaonon visual artist with a decade of experience in acrylic, oil, and mixed-media painting. She was supported by co-artists Christian Almodiel, Ronnie Barrun, Camille Nunez, Dolly Angelica Cantonjos, Jhon Dublin Alcantara along with impromptu assistance from Mark Espenilla.
The workshop was attended by thirty-two participants between the ages of eight and twelve: one from Batuan, three from San Fernando, and twenty-eight from San Jacinto. The event lasted three hours, with the presence of twin brothers and a participant from Barangay Almine adding a special touch to the gathering.
The workshop began with opening remarks from Noe Esparrago, who then introduced the art instructor. Following this, Eda Espinosa led a prayer. Gina proceeded to the first part of the workshop, titled the “Ultimate Crash Course,” which introduced some of history’s most famous artists, presented a “Starter Pack” of essential painting materials, and demonstrated their use. The participants were excited and fully engaged, listening attentively throughout the discussion.
The second part was the actual painting session, which brought mixed emotions to the participants. Some felt nervous yet thrilled, while others were filled with excitement as they mixed colors and interacted with their fellow participants. Their confidence grew as Jhon Dublin, Christian, Ronnie, Dolly, and Camille offered continuous support, ensuring that participants received guidance on painting techniques in the friendliest way possible. Meanwhile, Jeckris Ora-a, Shiela Cantoria, Lexie Joyce Sola, and Aurelie Gabion assisted with materials as needed. The participants took a fifteen-minute break, during which snacks were generously sponsored by Sheena So–Alcantara.
The session lasted three (3) hours. After completing their artwork, participants were rewarded with sweet treats: chocolates, mixed fruit candies, and lollipops.
After completing their artworks, participants were photographed individually and in groups based on their artwork’s subject. They then joined a “Historical Walk” to the Museo de Ticao, where they installed their artworks and received Certificates of Appreciation. Both participants and parents were ecstatic upon entering the Museo, in awe of the artworks and other historical displays.
As we parted ways, parents and participants expressed immense gratitude for the experience of a lifetime. Their question was, “When is the next art workshop? We want more!” This gave the team a clear sign to start planning for another mission, “Isulong”.
The working team concluded the workshop with a lunch sponsored by Judge Jez Espinosa and prepared by Jan Earvin “Binoy” Bartolata.
In light of all this, we thank God for the success of the workshop.
