Burt Little Home

Burt Little Home Tucked away in a small quiet neighborhood of Ili Norte, just minutes away from Surftown and steps away from the beach.

My private bungalow home is ideal for people who wants to live a slow daily life.

i woke up today with the light soft and grey, the color of pre-dawn usually. i had my morning rituals and drove alongside the river. i haven’t been here in a while since the north swell has begun but the feeling was never strange like coming home to your own bed after a long trip overseas. i parked near the bridge and trekked to the falls while the world was still silent. the pad of my feet on the earth. i found an almost flat rock where i could sit and be still and just be. the rhythm of my breath naturally deepened as i inhale all the good energy i am surrounded with, chanted a few om and screamed my heart out. what a release.

isn’t it interesting how we form mental attachments to certain things and if that thing has been taken away from us, our life feels like its going to end? recently i broke my laptop and my mind’s default reaction was either i have it fixed right away or replace it with a new one just because i’ve already built a structure where my day relies on it. i work, i do yoga, its already like my second brain. today is the seventh day without it and i am still living. i underestimated my body’s natural way to adapt and be resilient. sometimes i attach my stability with external things, unaware of the abundance that genuinely bring joy and happiness, like the smell of the ocean, or the freedom to spend my mornings slow: things that cannot be taken away from me.

Hello, friends!

Whatever you see in their photos—the coziness, the homely feel—it is all true. That is exactly what it feels like inside Burt Little Home. We arrived a bit early, so we were able to meet Troy and the staff. Thank you for the warm greetings!

The Home is nicely located near everything (food, transpo, market, konbini) and it has a path that leads to a peaceful beachfront away from the busy Surftown. Gentle sunlight peeks every morning through the skylight and the big windows. We get to see the world outside (and kuya taho vendor!) when the curtains are rolled-up. There was a storm during our stay, but we managed to make the most out of the situation by doing fun indoor activities. We got to appreciate the Home much more by staying inside most of the time.

We were able to get the much-needed break and relaxation from our daily lives. Thank you very much for letting us stay in your Home! Hoping that we'll be able to come again soon!

Goodbye for now to the little homely house before we travel back to the hustle and bustle of Manila.

the public market is just a 4-minute walk from home. since i’m in charge of cooking dinner i religously end my day with a mindful walk to the market to pick up fresh produce. it’s my way of signaling to my body’s internal clock that the day is winding down and it's time to slow down and prepare for rest. ☁️

october is the start of peak season in this little coastal town. the long gloomy days are coming to an end and the sun is frequently saying hello. i noticed that the air is beginning to smell like warm concrete and i've been spending more time outdoors. just a minute walk from home, and have recently opened—a good addition to the neighborhood! surfing is especially anticipated this time of the year with soft dreamy waves perfect for both beginners and experienced surfers: so my routine is starting to change as well.

being a host might seem like an easy job but in reality it comes with its own set of challenges! i remember one summer when a guest left just a few minutes after checking in because the aircon didn’t cool the room fast enough. during a typhoon, some of our guests experienced leaks in the ceiling. there was even one time we had to transfer our guests to another hotel just to ensure they were comfortable.

it's natural for our instincts to kick in and become defensive when guests share negative experience. but moments like these, we pause and ask ourselves as a host, "how did things reach this point?" from there we focus on taking action within what we can control.

we are v v v grateful to attract guests with deep understanding and compassion. it's something that we cherish the most! 🌱

I love how yoga teachers often close a class with, 'Thank yourself for doing something for yourself today.' I try to end my day the same way—mindfully appreciating all I've done to nurture both my body and soul. 🌥

“i’ve had the best time in your home, it was all well thought of, every space was mindfully curated for a restful stay. every time i look at the photos i took in your home, i can’t help but feel light and grounded. that’s how you’ll know that your environment plays a vital role for growth. i’ve just been away for 3 days, yet somehow a heavy weight was lifted off my shoulders.”

deep deep gratitude to you ~ stay a bit longer next time! 🌥

we opened burt little home during the pandemic, a time when we were all walking through a dark and uncertain tunnel. it was hard for us to see the light at the end of it but we found hope in embracing even the smallest tiniest light we could see and holding onto them as we forward.

healing spaces are lacking and we wanted to be that small light of hope for everyone so we created a space that is conducive to living slowly; one that grounds us and reminds us of the simple but meaningful rituals of daily life: preparing our meals, eating mindfully, and being intentional with our day—something that we often forget.

its been two years of embracing beautiful souls in our home, and our hearts are filled with gratitude for the good energy they radiate—because the city life needs it most. 🌥

i grew up in the city and i often dreamed of a simple life in the province. my roots lie in a small town in batangas, an hour away from the main city where we would drive along a rough mountain road to reach our home. life there was simple but deeply connected to the natural world. little did i know that those experiences would shape the life i would create.

now i walk a path of living simple and learning to understand nature’s language like noticing the smell of the air when its about to rain, or how the birds fly in south direction when the season changes. this journey has been the most grounding. definitely a life meant to be lived. 🌱
