PRESS RELEASE
(Updated as of 200H)

All Flights to Operate Out of NAIA 1 Beginning March 28, 2020

March 26, 2020, Pasay City - As more and more air carriers suspend operations due to COVID-19, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) is streamlining its operations concentrating remaining flights in just one terminal.

Beginning 0001H (12:01AM) of March 28, 2020, the following airlines will be operating to and from NAIA Terminal 1:

Gulf Air, Korean Airlines, Asiana Airlines, China Airlines, Hong Kong Air, Eva Air, Japan Airlines, Royal Brunei, All Nippon Airways, Cathay Pacific, Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines.

Oman Air and Jeju Air will cease operations beginning March 27 while Singapore Airlines has announced suspension of flights to and from Manila beginning March 29, 2020.

MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal made this announcement after due consultation with the Airline Operators Council (AOC) and following the instructions of DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade to explore ways to minimize exposure of airport workers while ensuring continuous operations in NAIA.

Flag carrier Philippine Airlines has also announced suspension of international flight operations starting March 26. PAL made their last flight out yesterday (March 25) of their MNL-SFO (PR104) and MNL-LAX (PR102). Return flights of these two will be on Friday, March 27, 2020 in NAIA Terminal 1. After these arrivals, PAL will cease to operate for the meantime.

As of press time, the following local and foreign airlines have ceased international flight operations:

Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines, Air Asia, Delta Airlines, United Airlines, Qantas Airways, Turkish Airlines, Emirates Airlines, KLM, Air China, Air New Guinea, China Eastern, China Southern, Ethiopian Airlines, Jet Star Asia, Kuwait Airlines, Malaysian Airlines, Saudia Airlines, Thai Airways, Tiger Airways and Xiamen Airlines.

It may be recalled that the MIAA has earlier closed NAIA Terminal 4, Terminal 2 domestic wing and Terminal 3 domestic, after a ban on domestic air travel was issued by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).

As of date, landing and take-off have dramatically dropped from the usual 768 flight movements per day to 50 movements as air carriers began suspending their operations after foreign governments enacted closing down of their borders to curb the spread of the dreaded coronavirus.

The MIAA’s move to streamline airport operations is a three-pronged approach to :
1) support government in its ECQ efforts because less personnel will have to report for work and will be confined to their homes thereby reducing exposure to the virus; 2) reduce cost on utilities by closing down NAIA T2, T3 and T4 and, 3) afford groundhandling companies with a cheaper way of managing their logistics.

A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has also been issued informing pilots around the world that only NAIA Terminal 1 remains in operation for the duration of the ECQ.

The MIAA vowed to continue servicing sweeper flights and has designated NAIA Terminal 2 for the purpose. Sweeper flights and repatriation flights to help foreign nationals return to their home countries, are jointly undertaken by the Department of Tourism and the Department of Foreign Affairs in collaborarion with the embassies.

On the other hand, government repatriation efforts to bring home OFWs continues to this day.

SHARING this post and sending a virtual hug to my friends in the travel industry...

To those who had to cancel travel plans, we empathize with you. We understand that you were looking foward to spending time with family and friends abroad, trying new food, and experiencing different cultures.

Yes, to put it bluntly, it sucks. Holy Week is peak season for the travel industry, but what sucks more is that there is now zero business for those in this industry.

To those demanding a refund from a travel agency, rest assured we are all trying our best to get your money back.

But in this time of COVID-19, I ask for your patience and empathy. Think before you speak. There is no need to yell, no need to swear, no need to threaten your travel agents with law suits. This is the time for class, not crass.

If you can afford a luxury tour out of the country, I am sure it is not the end of the world if you do not receive a refund today.

Again, I urge you to please think about the plight of others before you complain about why your refund is taking so long.

Think about the thousands who do not have jobs in the travel industry at this time:

1. Travel agents who passionately planned your tour, and the reservations staff, visa processors, etc. who did the legwork

2. Bus, ferry, and train drivers who were supposed to safely drive you, and the mechanics who maintain the transportation

3. Tour guides who were excited to explain the beauty of their country to you

4. Chefs, waiters, and waitresses who were supposed to prepare and serve you new cuisine

5. Hotel staff, from the doorman, bell boy/porters, check-in counter, and cleaning staff who were supposed to ensure your comfort

6. Flight attendants, pilots, and all airline/airport crew who were supposed to get you to your destination

7. Entertainers who were supposed to lively sing and dance for your happiness

8. Shop owners who were preparing to practice their bargaining and discount tactics so that you could bring home a luggage full of souvenirs

The list goes on and on.

So again, my only request is for your patience and understanding.

Think before you speak.
Thank you.
And please stay at home, be productive, and may God bless you and your families with good health. 🙂

We look forward to the day we can travel with you again, hopefully sooner, than later.

Dear Clients,

As much as we want to return rebook or refund any of which that we could do for the best interest of all. We are only as much as capable as everyone else.

All of these are dependent on the government's announcement for travel ban's and call to action. In which case the airlines will answer to them. In such a case wherein there is no travel restrictions. We have no power to dictate the airlines as we do not own the government.

If a mere letter of formality could make these airlines move the way we want to. We would have done it already.

Like everyone else who is in these crisis. We hope for the best and pray not for the worse. In such we ask of your consideration and understanding. We will do our best in getting everything done immediately when the airlines have made a formal announcement.

Thank you po,
