Today is probably one of my most unforgettable days here in Japan. After reaching Japan's most iconic spot, the view of Mt. Fuji with the Chureito Pagoda, I had a little incident that brought a series of emotions, which ultimately ended in gratitude.
We were about to return to Tokyo when I found a transparent cardholder, full of cards, including credit cards and PASMO/Suica, at the train station. It was few minutes before our train's departure, and Sherryl was doing last minute souvenir shopping at a store few meters away from the station. I knew I had to bring Sky with me in a stroller, but I did not hesitate to pick up the cardholder and hand it over to the station office. I felt relieved and hoped that the owner would be able to retrieve it.
We then rode the train. I took a nap and woke up when we were already about to transfer to another train. We were in a hurry to catch the second train, but when we were already inside, I realized that my phone was not with me. We immediately activated "Find My" phone, and confirmed that I left it in the first train. Gladly, I found out about it a minute before the second train's departure time. We immediately alighted and went back to the first train. I scanned through the train seats since I couldn't find it in our own seats. But I ran out of time because it was already that train's departure time. All sorts of emotions seemed to rush through me. I thought that I really lost my phone! But just less than a minute after the train departed, the station attendant called and asked me to follow him to the office. I thought that they needed me to fill-out some forms to report my lost phone, only to find out that he was already holding it and wanted to make sure that it was the phone I was looking for. Still overwhelmed by everything that happened, I confirmed that it was indeed my phone and simply said "arigatou gozaimasu" before bringing it back with me.
I'll never know who is the kind person who willingly brought my phone to the station office, but thank you. While we were already at our second train, I realized that all I did was a little kindness to someone who lost his cards without expecting anything in return, but just an hour after, someone else already repaid me by bringing back my phone.
