The Del Carmen Mangrove Reserve (DCMR) in Siargao Island Protected Landscape and Seascape (SIPLAS) in Surigao Del Norte achieved global recognition by being designated as a Ramsar Site (Site No. 2553) on November 22, 2024. This is an international site that identifies wetlands of international importance.

The mangroves in the area span 4,871 hectares, forming the largest contiguous mangrove forest in the Philippines. They facilitate a connection between the intertidal flats and upland forests, enabling birds that rely on both these habitats to move between them.
