Appreciation post:
The past two days have been very hectic for our ancestral house. As you all know, Taal held the EL PASUBAT Festival (Empanada, Longanisa, PAnutsa, SUman, Barong/Balisong, and Tapa/Tamales/Tawilis) from March 15–17. As part of the festival, we opened up our house to the public because of the VISITAS LAS CASAS portion, in which all of the public and private-owned ancestral houses welcomed everyone through their doors. Well, there must've been more than 250 people that walked in and saw how well preserved our house is and were in awe at what was inside. Some were from far away, some from Taal, and they always wondered what the inside looked like until now.
It was great to showcase our beautiful house and show the public what we had to offer.
SATURDAY
On Saturday, while the VISITAS LAS CASAS was in full swing, we hosted a lunch and tour with a group of 5 people that were batchmates in Ateneo and became lifelong friends that bonded for the love of travel, food, and everything in-between. They are:
Chay Pasco
Alex Dan N. Tacderas
Ele Caparas
Trixie Roque
Carol Thor
This group, shall I say, is why we do our lunch and tours. They came with an open mind and just took in what Taal is all about. They savored the food, complemented each dish, ate to their hearts delight, and did the tour, taking in the heritage of Taal and the stories that came with it. We learned a few things from Alex, who also knows his history. It is nice to have guests who appreciate what you have to offer. They even loved the Tamales for merienda. Thank you, Chay, for bringing your group over, and thank you all!
Also on Saturday, Marcia Adams and Architect Robert Arambulo came by with a group for a simple merienda of Halo-Halo, Empanada, and Suman. I spoke with Robert about his place, Villa Severina, which is a few blocks away, and I also spoke with Marcia, who owns a restaurant in Tagaytay, about how social media and negative posts affect businesses. It was enlightening, to say the least.
One more thing: Atty. Lot Cerdeña, Municipal Administrator of Taal, came by and presented the Goco House with a plaque for our involvement in VISITAS LAS CASAS. Thank you, po!
SUNDAY
Sunday started off by me going to Pansit ni Biko to get my breakfast of pansit and buy tamales for my guests, but there were no more tamales since there was a free breakfast in the Plaza as part of the last day of EL PASUBAT. My guests were:
Gianna Morales
Rafa Panlilio
Michele Gumabao
Lauren Young
Rosa Panlilio
Maricor Jao
Gianna, my pretty niece, is a 6th generation Goco, and Rafa is her charming boyfriend. Rosa is Rafa's lovely mom, who hails from nearby Lipa City, so she's familiar with our dishes. Maricor is Rafa's aunt, who is also a history buff. Michele Gumabao is a former beauty queen and a champion volleyball player with DLSU and Creamline Cool Smashers in the PVL. Lauren Young is an actress and a model. two celebrities in their own right. This group also loved the food and the vibe of Taal and enjoyed the walking tour, even going into the camera museum. If only they could've gone into the BMW motorcycle museum in nearby Casa Corazon in Lemery an I know that Rafa likes riding big bikes. Next time!
As they were leaving, Lauren thanked me for a nice time, and she said that this wasn't what she expected at all. Thank you, Lauren, and as a fellow "vinoisseur" (vinegar connoisseur), I will send you a bottle of the same vinegar you had during your meal. Enjoy it with your bagoong balayan.
After their tour, they all went to the market with ART The Explorer , our tour guide, to buy Taal products and of course, with two celebrities in tow, they were mobbed by the townsfolk. It's all good! It comes with the territory and Taaleño's are nice people.
Thank you, Gianna , for bringing them over, and thank you all for gracing us with your presence. On behalf of the Goco Ancestral House, maraming salamat EL PASUBAT!! Ala eh!
