TROPICAL CYCLONE ADVISORY #1
FOR: Tropical Depression

ISSUED AT 5:00 AM, 17 February 2021
(Valid for broadcast until the next advisory to be issued at 11 AM today)

THE LOW PRESSURE AREA OUTSIDE THE PHILIPPINE AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY NEAR PALAU HAS DEVELOPED INTO A TROPICAL DEPRESSION.

Location of center
(4:00 AM today) The center of the Tropical Depression was estimated based on all available data at 1,070 km East of Mindanao (OUTSIDE PAR) (6.9°N,135.5°E).
Maximum Sustained Winds: 45 km/h near the center.
Gustiness: Up to 55 km/h
Movement: Moving Westward Slowly

Tomorrow morning 18 February 2021: 750 km East of Davao City, (7.2°N, 132.6°E) Tropical Depression
Friday morning 19 February 2021: 550 km East of Davao City (7.3°N, 130.8°E) Tropical Storm
Saturday morning 20 February 2021: 255 km East Southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur (7.3°N, 128.4°E) Tropical Storm
Sunday morning 21 February 2021: In the vicinity of Jabonga, Agusan del Norte (9.4°N, 125.5°E) Tropical Storm
Monday morning 22 February 2021: 75 km West Southwest of Iloilo City (10.5°N, 121.9°E) Tropical Storm

• The Low Pressure Area outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) near Palau developed into a Tropical Depression at 2:00 AM today. This weather disturbance is forecast to enter the PAR in the next 12 to 18 hours. Once inside the PAR, it will be named “AURING” as the first tropical cyclone of the 2021 season. On the forecast track, the Tropical Depression is expected to move westward to west-northwestward over the Philippine Sea east of Mindanao. It is currently forecast to make landfall over the eastern coast of Caraga-Davao Region area on Saturday or Sunday as a Tropical Storm.

• The Tropical Depression is currently not affecting any part of the country. However, localities in Visayas, Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Cotabato, and Lanao del Sur, especially those situated in areas identified in hazard maps to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards, are advised to take appropriate preparatory measures due to increasing likelihood of heavy rains and gusty conditions associated with the potential passage of a tropical cyclone during the weekend through Monday. Due to the landfalling nature of the projected path of this weather disturbance, the raising of Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals may result in the early disruption of maritime activities.

• Meanwhile, the Tail-End of a Frontal System will bring moderate to heavy rains over Eastern Visayas and light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Central Visayas, Dinagat Islands, Camiguin, and Surigao del Norte today. Isolated flooding and rain-induced landslides may occur due to heavy rainfall or prolonged periods of rainfall, especially in areas identified in hazard maps to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards. Adjacent or nearby areas may also experience flooding in the absence of such rainfall occurrence due to surface runoff or swelling of river channels.

Considering these developments, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take appropriate measures. Unless a Severe Weather Bulletin is released, the next Tropical Cyclone Advisory will be issued at 11:00 AM today.
