"11 FACTS ABOUT BOHOL PHILIPPINES"

1.)
Kalamay is a popular pasalubong (the Filipino tradition of a homecoming gift). They are often eaten alone, directly from the packaging. Kalamay is also used in a variety of traditional Filipino dishes as a sweetener, including the suman and the bukayo. It can also be added to beverages like coffee, milk, or hot chocolate.

2.)
Chocolate Hills were declared a National geographical monument in 1988. UNESCO has also declared these hills as a World Heritage Site. Despite many efforts by the government, these hills are considered as viable sites for many small-scale local quarries.

3.)
Baclayon Church Roman Catholic Church is one of the oldest churches in the Philippines founded by the Jesuits in 1596. In 1717, it was converted into a parish church while the construction of the existing coral stone church took another 10 years to complete. In 1768, the Jesuits were followed by the Augustinian Recollects who intensively renovated the Baclayon Church.

4.)
Tarsier is one of the smallest primates it is more active at night,The most noticeable thing about tarsiers are their eyes. They have the largest eyes relative to body size of any mammal. Each eyeball is around 16 millimeters in diameter, which is as large as the tarsier’s entire brain, but every last millimeter is necessary since the tarsier is a nocturnal species. The eyes are so large, they can’t rotate them, so they have a neck that do the work instead.

5.)
Banacon Island Mangrove Forest is now an eco-tourist destination with an approximate area of 425 hectares of Mangrove Forest established through community effort that started last 1957. Under the Municipality of Getafe, located north of Bohol province, it is now considered as the biggest mangrove plantation in Asia.

6.)
Bohol is the Most Kid Friendly Place in the Philippines.

7).
Tagbilaran City, Bohol is the only place where tricycle has to have a bible verse Twenty-six years ago, officials in Bohol's provincial capital Tagbilaran passed a city ordinance requiring that a Scripture be painted on the back of all tricycles.Any driver caught without a Bible verse is fined or has their license revoked. The city wants the world to know how much they love God's Word.

8.)
The Eskaya Tribe is located on Bohol, an island in the Southern Philippines. According to the last census in 2000 it had a population of around 3000, The Eskaya have a unique language and writing system that scholars have not been able to link to any other known language. They also have a unique oral history (or mythology depending on who you ask) dating back to biblical times. They believe that people originated from a butterfly called Pinya Paypay Pling. In some way (that is not clear to me) the butterfly interacted with a lion and lioness who gave birth to a monkey. That monkey mated with another and gave birth to the first humans. This is depicted in this educational chart from their school.

9.)
The 137 hectare being covered with seagrasses that the local also called β€œ Coral Garden”. They grow naturally after the 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Bohol. Located in Tangnan, Loon, Bohol.Take Bohol's latest hidden gem located in the municipality of Loon. Recall that, in 2013, Bohol was hit by a devastating 7.2 magnitude earthquake that caused the coastal area in Loon to rise by 1.2 meters into a stretch of nothingness...at first. The coastline is about eight kilometers and passes through the towns of Loon and Maribojoc. It covers about 1.37 square kilometers and was declared by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) as a geological monument.

10.)
The Danajon Bank or Double Barrier Reef, located off northern Bohol Island, is the only double barrier reef in the Philippines and is 1 of only 3 such sites in the Indo-Pacific. The reef is spread across almost 130 kms and consists of 3 large reefs.

11.)
Sandugo was a blood compact, performed in the island of Bohol in the Philippines, between the Spanish explorer Miguel LΓ³pez de Legazpi and Datu Sikatunathe chieftain of Bohol on March 16, 1565, to seal their friendship as part of the tribal tradition. This is considered as the first treaty of friendship between the Spaniards and Filipinos. "Sandugo" is a Visayan word which means "one blood".
