UM Tagum College's 4th Year Tourism Management students participated in the 2GO MV Masikap Vessel Familiarization Tour last January 13, 2025, as part of their Cruise Tourism course.

While the tour was optional, students were encouraged to join as it provided a valuable learning opportunity. For those unable to attend, alternative requirements were made available to ensure they could still gain insights relevant to the course.

Furthermore, the tour offered an in-depth look into 2GO's operations, vessel structure, and services, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios, thereby enhancing their skills and preparing them for excellence in the tourism industry.

Thus, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the individuals who made this educational experience possible, to our Program Head, Ritchel P. Villaver, PhD, our VP-BOO, Evelyn P. Saludes, EdD, and our Dean of College, Gina Fe G. Israel, EdD.

Numerous schools in the Philippines with websites under the edu.ph domain including the University of Mindanao experience technical difficulties rendering the portal inaccessible today, January 24.

As per Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Undersecretary Jeffrey Dy, they received a report that there was a denial of service attack on PHNet that handles the edu.ph domain.

In a report made by GMA News Online, Dy said, โ€œWe contacted them. And they are now trying to resolve the issue. May Denial of Service Attack daw sa kanila since 10 p.m. last night.โ€ Dy then reiterated that DICT-NCERT already offered their assistance to fix the problem.

Further, Dy described a denial-of-service attack as an attempt to create millions of incomplete queries to block and delay โ€œlegitimate queries.โ€

In line with the nation-wide issue, Assistant Manager Joland Castro of UM Tagum College-Information and Communication Technology Center (UMTC-ICTC) said that the problem is encountered by many schools and that they are waiting for the edu.ph domain to be fixed.

โ€œKana nga problema is beyond our control. So as long as ang problema is sa system, kay ang naigo man gud is ang edu.ph na domain. In the meantime, maghulat lang ta sa ICT-Main kung unsa ilang pwede mahimo didto. Ang atoa man guโ€™ng portal is naka-base sa ICT-main. Since ang edu.ph is down gihapon karon, itโ€™s beyond our control so maghulat na lang ta na ma-fix ang domainโ€ฆ In the meantime, maghulat pod ta sa announcement sa Main,โ€ Castro told Collegium.

Meanwhile, several universities already announced the difficulties encountered with their websites including University of Santo Tomas (UST), the University of the Philippines (UP), the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), the Colegio de San Juan de Letran, the Lyceum of the Philippines University Manila.

As to when the issue with websites will be fixed, Dy said that there is no definite timeline yet.

Aiming to improve their leadership capabilities by immersing themselves in a discussion about Quality Education (Goal 4) and Sustainable Cities and Communities (Goal 11), the University of Mindanao Tagum College (UMTC) student leaders, together with UMTC OSA (Office of Student Affairs) Head Mr. Ken Clyde Longos, participated in the UM Interbranch UN SDG (United Nations Sustainable Development Goals) Studentsโ€™ Conference with the theme, โ€œFuture Forward: Unleashing Student Innovation for a Sustainable Future through UN SDG Solutions,โ€ in the DPT Buildingโ€™s Auditorium, University of Mindanao Main Campus, Davao City, last January 17, 2025.

Furthermore, in the said event that was organized by the University of Mindanao Council of College Student Government (UM CCSG) in partnership with OSA, Council of Student Organization (CSO) President Joy Escalante competed in Sustainable Project Pitching; Council of Department Student Government (CDSG) officer Benjamin Laron engaged in the Sharing of Best Practices on UN SDG per branch, and CDSG officer Jhonrell Barillano and CSO officer Dannaly Almaza were also delegates of the said conference.

Five UMians depart for Student Internship Abroad Program

In fulfillment of their final requirement and expanding their knowledge by venturing abroad, three students from the University of Mindanao (UM) Main Campus, namely Julgie Maine Grace B. Macasieb, Shaine Anne R. Polinar, and Maridelle P. Ronquillo, and two students from the University of Mindanao Tagum College (UMTC), namely Alexa Maureen S. Depay and Jerlyn Angel G. Labrador, take off to Japan to participate in the Student Internship Abroad Program today, January 18, 2025.

Endorsed by the Chairman of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Dr. J. Prospero E. De Vera III, the said students will take part in the internship program from January 18 to July 17, 2025.

Moreover, UM main students will be under Goryukan Co., Ltd., and the UMTC students will proceed at Ebisuya Co., Ltd., 5164 Oaza Hakujo, Kitaazumi Gun, Hakuba Mura, Nagano Prefecture.

โœ…Every student officially enrolled in the Tourism Management program is automatically a member of UFTS-UMTC, as it is an academic organization.

Section 2:
Membership is valid for one year and can be renewed under the following terms:

โœ…The student must be officially enrolled at UM Tagum College.
โœ…The student must pay the annual membership fee (Php 50.00).
โœ…The student must contribute to the monthly dues (Php 5.00 x 10 months = Php 50.00).

Helping Hand 2.0 unfolded in the heart of Sitio Lambid, Barangay Santo Niรฑo, Talaingod, as a beautiful act of compassion. Spearheaded by the Union of Filipino Tourism Students- UM Tagum Chapter in partnership with DIY Travellers and mountaineer groups, this outreach program on November 23โ€“24, 2024, brought joy to the children of Lambid Elementary School. Through feeding program and the giving of donations, we created moments of happiness that will be forever cherished. Amid the breathtaking scenery, it was the childrenโ€™s smiles and laughter that truly revealed the hidden beauty of Sitio Lambid.

HMTM|| MANILA-PAMPANGA EDUCATIONAL TOUR 2024 This 4-minute+ video wraps up the first day of the Hospitality Management and Tourism Management Programs' Educational Tour. Day 1: June 13, 2024 The group departed from Tagum on June 12, 2024, to catch their early morning flight on June 13, 2024, from Davao to Manila. Upon arrival at NAIA T2, they immediately went to Intramuros for breakfast and started their tour. The first stop was Manila Cathedral; then they walked to Fort Santiago. The next stop was the Luneta/Rizal Park, where they had a light and sound show of Rizal's death history. Afterward, they had lunch at Cabalen, SM Manila, then drove to Clark, Pampanga, to check in at Best Western Plus Metro Clark Hotel.
