Faith and devotion illuminated the streets of Virac as the vibrant Sinulog Dance Prayer Procession unfolded yesterday, January 18, 2025.

In solidarity with this deeply meaningful celebration, the Provincial Government of Catanduanes, through the Catandungan Cultural Troupe of the Provincial Tourism Office, proudly joined the procession for the third consecutive year. Graced by the presence of the Bishop of Catanduanes, Most Rev. Bishop Luisito Occiano, and Holy Innocents Mission Church Priest In-Charge Rev. Fr. Franco Ian Balmadrid, the event was a kaleidoscope of colors and infectious rhythms, beginning at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral and culminating at the Holy Innocents Mission Church in Brgy. Sto. Niño, Virac.

This annual tradition is more than a celebration—it’s a testament to the unwavering faith of Catandunganons as they seek the guidance and blessings of the Holy Child. It was a beautiful reflection of unity, spirituality, and the deep cultural heritage that define the Happy Island.

The Happy Island of Catanduanes celebrates a banner year in 2024 as its tourism sector posts remarkable economic contributions.

Domestic tourism receipts soared to Php 164,295,600, reflecting an 8.5% increase from 2023’s Php 151,425,600. Even more impressive, foreign tourism receipts experienced a five-fold growth of 512.6%, reaching Php 48,708,066, up from Php 7,950,636 in 2023. This extraordinary surge underscores the province’s success in attracting a growing number of international travelers.

The sector’s growth also translated to tangible benefits for local communities, generating 177,219 jobs in 2024—a 13.8% increase from the 155,695 jobs recorded in 2023. This highlights tourism’s vital role in empowering local livelihoods and driving inclusive development across Catanduanes.

These achievements reflect the collective efforts of the Provincial Local Government Unit of Catanduanes thru the Provincial Tourism Office, municipal local government units, the Department of Tourism and its stakeholders to position Catanduanes as a premier destination. By promoting the island’s unique natural attractions, rich culture, and improved tourism services, Catanduanes continues to shine as a beacon of sustainable growth and economic resilience.
