Another historic moment for Zamboanga City:

Today, Grab officially launched their app in Zamboanga City. The launching ceremony was held at the Zamboanga City Hall Conference Room.

It can be remembered that GRABTRIKE had the soft launching of their application in Zamboanga City earlier this June, Zamboanga City being the pioneer city in Mindanao to have Grab Trike available.

Consumers can rest assured that Grab has done their due diligence regarding the selection process of their drivers, even going as far as providing insurance for both the driver and passenger in case of an unforeseen accident.

Mayor John M. Dalipe, a firm advocate of modernization and development, stated that including GrabTrike and Food Delivery in the city is a testament to the city's growth and development as we move forward towards the growth of Zamboanga City.

House Majority Leader Congressman Mannix M. Dalipe also shared his overwhelming joy towards Zamboanga City being the pioneer city in Mindanao that has Grab readily available, stating that the City Government of Zamboanga has always prioritized solving the problems that the citizens of the city and that through modernization we can slowly but surely build a better Zamboanga City.

Commuters can now breath easily knowing that they have an alternative readily available for their daily commute.

Taluksangay Mosque, Zamboanga City

The Mosque in the floating village of Taluksangay has been a popular spot for visitors in Zamboanga City for many years. Its red dome stands out beautifully against the lush trees, greenery, and the flowing river nearby. Built in 1885 by Sama Banguingui Chieftain Hadji Abdullah Maas Nuño, this mosque was the first of its kind in the Zamboanga Peninsula.

The Taluksangay Mosque is well-known not just in the Philippines but also in Islamic countries like Turkey, Saudi Arabia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Borneo. It has become a gathering place for Muslim scholars from around the world. The surrounding area, Barangay Taluksangay, is home to the Sama Banguingui people and Badjao communities who live along the coast and riverside.

If you're planning a visit, it's easy to get to Taluksangay from Zamboanga City. You can catch a jeep from the city center, with the ride starting near Plaza Pershing, in front of Southway Square Mall. The trip takes about 30 minutes, depending on traffic.

Turismo Travel Guide: #10
Yakan Weaving Village, Zamboanga City

The Yakan Weaving Village in Zamboanga City is a must-visit for anyone interested in traditional Filipino craftsmanship. The Yakans are renowned as some of the finest weavers in the country. At the village, you can find a range of unique Yakan cloth, all handwoven using traditional techniques. The village also offers a variety of other cultural items, including brassware, antiques, traditional Muslim swords, wood carvings, pottery, ceramics, and shell trinkets. It’s located just 7 kilometers from the city proper along the west coast road.

Originally, Yakan weaving was reserved for creating traditional dresses like the Semmek. However, due to growing interest from both local and international visitors, the artisans have expanded their craft. Now, they produce a wide array of items, including wall coverings, table runners, placemats, belts, scarves, bags, and purses. Each item is handwoven with intricate, nature-inspired patterns such as palipattang (rainbow), bunga-sama (python), kenna-kenna (fish), and daen-dawen (vine). Because every piece is handmade and each weaver has a unique style, no two items are exactly alike. Visitors have the opportunity to watch these skilled artisans at work and purchase beautiful, one-of-a-kind souvenirs.

To visit the Yakan Village in Upper Calarian from Zamboanga City, head to Valderrosa Street near the public market and catch a jeep bound for Upper Calarian. Look for one that passes Gate 2—ask the driver to confirm, as this route will take you right by the village. The trip usually takes about 45 minutes in heavy traffic, and you’ll spot La Vista del Mar resort across from the village. When you arrive, take the time to learn about Yakan culture, appreciate the artistry, and, of course, shop for as many of their handcrafted products as you can.

VAMOS ZAMBOANGA!

Turismo Travel Guide: #9
R.T. Lim Boulevard, Zamboanga City

Cawa-Cawa Boulevard, also known as R.T. Lim Boulevard, is a popular spot by the sea in Zamboanga City. It's perfect for a morning jog or run, or just hanging out anytime while taking in views of Sta. Cruz Islands, the port, fishing boats, and the stunning sunset.

Back in the day, Barangay San Jose Cawa-Cawa had a long, sandy beach that was narrowed by road widening along R.T. Lim Boulevard. This area was a favorite for locals during sunsets and weekends. The name "Cawa-Cawa" comes from "cawa," meaning frying pan in the local dialect, as the beach was thought to resemble one. Swimmers named it Cawa-Cawa to caution others about the deep waters.

In the evenings, Cawa-Cawa Boulevard buzzes with activity as people and students gather. Street vendors sell a variety of snacks, from soft drinks to all types of street food. It's also the perfect place to watch the sunset and see the Sama tribe members on their colorful vintas, selling fresh sea produce, including shells and corals, along the shore.
A Must-Visit when you come visit Mi Ciudad de Zamboanga.
