Khewra Mines of Pakistan produce 325,000 tons of salt per year and are fabled to be discovered by Alexander’s Army through chance when their horses began licking the salts while the troops rested. Thus, resulting in the discovery of the modern world’s second-largest salt mine. The mammoth mines have over 40 km of tunnels along with their own mosque inside. To attract tourists salty miniature versions of the Great Wall of China, Minar-e-Pakistan, and Badshahi Mosque are also found inside.

These petroglyphs are concentrated at ten major sites between Hunza and Shatial, while more have been found in Skardu and Shigar in Shigar the remains of an Buddhist monastery were found in 1984.
The carvings were left by various invaders, traders and pilgrims who passed along the Silk Road trade route, as well as by locals. The earliest date back to between 5000 BCE and 1000 AD, showing single animals, triangular men and hunting scenes in which the animals sometimes are larger than the hunters. These carvings were pecked into the rocks with stone tools and are covered with a thick patina that proves their age. Late carvings were sometimes executed with a sharp chisel.
