Red Line Bus Construction Work Begins, Alternative Routes announced

The construction of the Karachi Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Red Line project began yesterday and includes the completion of the path from Tank Chowk nearby Malir Halt to Safoora Chowrangi in the first phase.

The construction will affect the flow of traffic, and the Sindh Traffic Police has advised motorists to bypass the Tank Chowk to Saforra Chowrangi via Check Post No. 6, Malir Cantt route. The traffic police have also provided alternate routes in its diversion plan

The citizens of Karachi have been rushing to avail the service of Karachi's green line bus in huge numbers since its inauguration as it has been reported that almost 50,000 people have traveled through green line last sunday.

The federal government completed phase one of Green Line in Karachi on December 25 last year and made it operational from Surjani Town to Namaish Chowrangi.

Passengers say the federal government should start a shuttle bus service to the tower and improve its fare system, so that the service will not only be more successful but will also make it easier for passengers to travel.

Federal Minister for Planning, Development, Special Initiatives Asad Umar said on Saturday that the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) will approve the transaction structure for the development and operation of the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project in its next meeting to be held in February.

Addressing a ceremony regarding the restoration of Karachi’s Cooperative Market where hundreds of shops were gutted, the federal minister announced that construction work on the transaction structure of KCR would start from next month after ECNEC approval.

The Public-Private Partnership Authority (P3A) on Tuesday had approved a project proposal regarding the new Karachi Circular Railway (KCR).

Taking to Twitter, Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar had said that he chaired a P3A board meeting which approved the project proposal and transaction structure of the modern KCR project.

The decades-old public transport problem of Karachi inching towards some sort of mitigation as Sindh Minister for Transportation Awais Shah has revealed that the first batch of prototype buses for the provincial government’s Peoples’ Bus Service project is ready to arrive in the metropolis.

250 hybrid busses being manufactured by a Chinese company for the People’s Bus Service project for Karachi and other districts of Sindh province.

According to a post shared on Twitter by the company, the prototype buses are ready and successfully tested. The buses will arrive in Karachi by next month.

“Higer is proud to announce that prototype bus for Sindh Government project is ready and successfully tested. The first batch of the buses will be dispatched after China’s Spring festival.’

In another post, the Sindh Mass Transit Authority said that buses for Karachi and Larkana are ready and successfully tested.

“The wait is over. The buses for karachi and Larkana are ready & successfully tested. We promise to deliver a first class transport system for the people of Sindh.”
