The US Embassy in Islamabad is taking steps to reduce visa appointment waiting times for Pakistani applicants due to a surge in demand. They have introduced three measures to address this unprecedented demand:
Expediting Visa Appointments: The embassy is expediting thousands of non-immigrant visa appointments, rescheduling over ten thousand Pakistani applicants originally scheduled for 2024 in Karachi to 2023, with some appointments available as early as next week. Affected applicants are urged to check their email and log in to the embassy's website to confirm their accelerated appointment.
Increased Flexibility: To provide greater flexibility for Pakistani travelers, visa applicants can now reschedule appointments at either the Consulate General in Karachi or the US Embassy in Islamabad, choosing the option that suits them best. This change is intended to offer applicants more freedom to select a convenient date, time, and location.
Interview Waiver Applications: Starting from September 25, the US Consulate General in Karachi will start accepting new interview waiver applications for eligible applicants who have previously been granted US visas.,The US Embassy in Islamabad has already been accepting interview waiver applications for eligible candidates.

Express Entry draws in Canada, paused for a month, are set to resume this week. The last draw occurred on August 15, inviting 4,300 candidates with a minimum CRS score of 496 from the Express Entry pool. The upcoming draws will prioritize candidates in the transport occupation category, including commercial truck drivers, pilots, and aircraft assembly workers. This move is aimed at bolstering Canada's economy and addressing labor gaps in the transport sector. Canada's government updated its immigration laws in 2022 to select immigrants based on economic priorities. IRCC introduced six new Express Entry categories, including healthcare, STEM professions, skilled trades, transport, and agriculture. So far in 2023, 10,900 candidates have been invited through category-based selection draws. Transport occupations are expected to account for one to two percent of future Express Entry category-based draws, as reported by the Globe and Mail.

Canada is currently celebrating #WelcomingWeek2023 from September 8-17. This annual event, organized by Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), aims to foster a sense of belonging among newcomers and encourage Canadians to help them settle into their new home. The event acknowledges the significance of newcomers and their contributions to communities, regardless of their origin.
The 2021 census data reveals that there are around 8.3 million immigrants in Canada, comprising nearly a quarter of the total population.
Welcoming Week is part of IRCC's #ImmigrationMatters campaign, which raises awareness about the advantages of immigration in Canada. Canadians are encouraged to participate by connecting with newcomers in various ways. One unique approach is to contact organizations offering settlement services to be matched with a newcomer, assisting them in adjusting to daily life in their new community. Additionally, Canadians can share meals, attend cultural events, or engage in conversations to help newcomers improve their English or French language skills. This initiative underscores the importance of inclusivity and integration in Canadian society.

The fall and lead-up to Christmas are typically active times for Canada's immigration system. Key developments to watch for include potential changes in immigration policy priorities, permanent residence levels, and updates to programs like parents and grandparents sponsorship, international student programs, and work permits.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau may issue a new Ministerial Mandate letter, which guides immigration policy. While these letters can follow cabinet shuffles, there's no obligation to issue them, and the new minister may continue previous policies.
The Immigration Levels Plan, released annually by IRCC, sets targets for permanent resident admissions. The 2023-2025 plan aims to admit 500,000 new permanent residents per year, with a focus on economic class candidates, including Express Entry.
Express Entry has seen significant changes, including category-based selection draws emphasizing attributes like French-language abilities and work experience in sectors like healthcare and STEM professions.
IRCC plans to prioritize candidates with STEM work experience, with up to 31% of Express Entry invitations expected to go to STEM professionals.
Parent and grandparent sponsorship is also evolving, with changes in selection methods and increasing admission targets.
Canada is set to welcome 900,000 international students, with ongoing reviews and the Trusted Institutions Framework aimed at streamlining study permit processing.
¬Lastly, a policy allowing certain students to work full-time is set to expire on December 31, with IRCC evaluating its next steps
