Gilkey Memorial is a memorial and tomb for those who have died while climbing 🏔️. The memorial is named after Art Gilkey who died on the mountain in 1953.
Gilkey Memorial in 2019
The memorial is a stone cairn covered with metal plaques. Each plaque is inscribed with the details about the dead climber like when they went missing or were found dead.

Two foreign female climbers climb Nanga Parbat, one of the world's highest peaks in the Himalayas.

Pakistani climbers from all over the world are campaigning to climb Pakistani peaks. On Friday, Norwegian and Taiwanese women climbers climbed Nanga Parbat in their first season.

In the first summit of the mountaineering season in Pakistan, two foreign women climbers, Kirsten Harila of Norway and Grace Teng of Taiwan, climbed the world's ninth highest peak, Nanga Parbat
Members of the Nepali team also completed the summit with climbers while Pakistani climber Shahrooz Kashif is also present on Nanga Parbat.

Norway's Kirsten Hariella has climbed the seventh highest peak of the season at 8,000 meters. She wants to break Nirmal's record by climbing all 14 highest peaks in less than six months

Abdul Joshi from Hunza made Pakistan proud on Monday as he successfully climbed the world’s highest mountain, Mount Everest (8,848 metres) and raised the country's flag on top of the world.

Known as “pathfinder” among mountaineers due to his extraordinary skills, Joshi was part of the team led by Mingma G.

The expedition began on April 22 and they reached Camp 4 on May 15.

The thirty-eight-year-old Hunzaiite embarked the final summit from Camp 4 last night at around 9pm PKT and reached the top on Sunday near 5am PKT.

The summit was confirmed on Joshi’s page.

“Alhamdulliah! Another triumph for Pakistan! Abdul Joshi has summited Mount Everest - the Highest Mountain in the World. May Allah be praised for all His glory,” the post read.

He is the eighth Pakistani to successfully scale Mount Everest. Nazir Sabir, Abdul Jabbar Bhatti, Hassan Sadpara, Mirza Ali Baig, Samina Baig, Shehroze Kashif and Sirbaz Ali Khan have also summitted the highest peak in the world.

In April last year, Joshi, along with Sirbaz Khan, had summitted 8,091 metres Annapurna peak. His first peak was Manglik Sar at 6,050 metres. He caught everyone’s attention when he led a team for the first-ever successful summit of Passu Cones in Gilgit.

The young professional mountaineer has also climbed the Passu Cones and Mount Annapurna, among other peaks during his relatively short career.
