The Bottleneck is a narrow couloir located along the South-East Spur (Abruzzi Spur), the primary route to the summit of K2, the second-highest mountain in the world. It is overhung by seracs from the ice field east of the summit and is situated only 400 meters (1,300 feet) below the summit. Climbers must traverse about 100 meters (330 feet) exposed to the seracs, facing a steepness of 50 to 60 degrees, making it the most dangerous part of the route. Despite its dangers, it is still the technically easiest and fastest route to the summit, and most climbers choose to use it to minimize the time spent above 8,000 meters (26,000 feet)
