11 February 1646. Queens Marie Louise Gonzaga arrived with her retinue to Gdansk. She was wife of Polish king Władysław IV Vasa for 2 years and later on his brother John II Casimir Vasa. Marie Gonzaga had a significant political influence and relations between France and Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The painting was made by Bartholomeo Milwitz the same year 1646. Is shows the fortress and the city of Gdansk as well.

One of the most catastrophic floods in Gdansk occurred in April 1829, when 75% of the contemporary city area were under water. Up to present days five marks of the highest water stand survive on the walls of buildings in the Old Town indicating 3.36 m above mean sea level. Here is one of them.

The lifting bridge in Gdansk Old Town is located above Motlawa river.
