TOP 6 DESTINATIONS FOR 1 DAY TRIP FROM KRAKÓW

Being in Krakow, you don't have to limit yourself to visiting the city, the Wieliczka salt mine or the Auschwitz death camp. If you have a little more time, you can go on a day trip to one of the places below 👇

1️⃣Benedictine Abbey in Tyniec

The abbey lies on the picturesque hill just 10 km from the city center. Founded in 1044 is the oldest abbey in Poland. You can sightsee the buildings, take a part in various workshops (herbalism, Christian meditation), buy food and wine manufactured by monks and chill in the riverside.

2️⃣ Wadowice - the home town of John Paul II

Karol Wojtyła, who was elected Pope in 1978 and took the name John Paul II, is one of the most important figures in the history of Poland and the Cold War. It is difficult to even express how important John Paul II was for Poles in the years of his pontificate (1978 - 2005). Wadowice is a very nice, piedmont town from which Wojtyła came. Currently, it is quite a popular destination for pilgrims and tourists who want to see the house and the area in which the future Pope grew up. Be sure to try the delicious kremówka papieska (papal cream-cake)!

3️⃣ Niepołomice and Niepołomicka Forest

If you want to enjoy nature, chill and relax in a beautiful forest near Krakow (50 km), go to Niepołomice and the Niepołomicka Forest. It is not only a home for many endangered bird species but also a place with a rich history.

4️⃣ Tarnów

Tarnów is a quite big city 90 kilometers from Krakow and is rarely visited by foreign tourists. What a pity! The old city of Tarnów sometimes called the "Pearl of the Renaissance" is not large, but extremely charming. Once 3/4 of Tarnów's population were Jews.

4️⃣ Lanckorona

That village just 40 kilometers from Kraków used to be a popular holiday destination for residents of Kraków. You can find some charming traditional wooden houses, take a cup of tea in a small cafe and enjoy the closeness of nature. Next to Lanckorona there is Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, one of the most important sanctuaries in Poland.

6️⃣ Zalipie

Near Krakow and even closer to Tarnów is Zalipie. This is one of the most beautiful villages in Poland. Zalpie is famous for hand-painted wooden huts. For now, Zalpie, despite being very popular, has not become a commercialized place. May it be as long as possible!

1-day tour from Kraków to Częstochowa along the Trail of the Eagle's Nests

The Kraków-Częstochowa Jura is a very interesting place for both nature lovers and history enthusiasts. Over a distance of 164 kilometers, there is a system of fortresses and strongholds that played a huge role in the heyday of the Republic of Poland.

As for nature, limestone rocks are a characteristic element of the Jura landscape. These rocks and the famous salt mines clearly indicate that this area was once the bottom of the sea.
