‚Arbeit macht frei’ gate entrance.

The slogan ‚Arbeit macht frei’ was also found in other camps such as Dachau, Sachsenhausen or Gross-Rosen. The inscription made in Oświęcim is the most famous example of Nazi’s horrific rhetoric.

Thousands of prisoners were marched out through this gate each day to long hours of slave labor.

Update for Spring 2021.
Although there has been an increase in Covid cases, which could indicate the third wave, we continue to operate normally.
COVID-19 precautions are consistently applied.
Museums in Auschwitz and Krakow are still open, and the government is not planning to close them, but you never know with Covid.
We would be delighted to take you on the tour if you are in Krakow.
We hope that by summer 2021, all restrictions will be lifted and that normal tourism will restart in our lovely city.

Shoah - Block 27. The exhibition prepared by the Yad Vashem Institute in Jerusalem was officially opened on June 13, 2013. The first part is devoted to such topic as Jewish life between the two World Wars.
“For 2000 years after the Jewish people had lost its political independence in the Land of Israel and most Jews were exiled - they lived as a minority along the nations. Throughout this entire period the Jewish people maintained its religious and national singularity and created a rich culture. In the modern era the Jews struggled to acquire equal civil rights, joined political movements and underwent an accelerated the process of modernization and urbanization. Many of them left Europe in the large waves of emigration. Aspiring to integrate into all spheres of life in each country and to share in the destiny of the nations among whom they lived, they attained great achievements.”

Did you know about 'Women in Auschwitz'?

A total of over 130,000 women were registered in the Auschwitz complex. They were mostly Jews (82,000), Poles (31,000) and Roma (11,000). Several hundred Jewish women - the elderly, disabled, sick and pregnant, as well as mothers with small children - were classified during selection on the ramp as unfit for labor. They were murdered in the gas chambers immediately after arrival. (The Auschwitz - Birkenau Memorial. A Guidebook. 2016)
