Hi, I am Barbara and I welcome you to Krakow! To begin with my master's degree in history, earned at the most prestigious and oldest in Poland, the Jagiellonian University, gives me an unique position to be a real professional with deep historical knowledge.
As a native Cracovian who has lived in the city for my entire life, I witnessed all important, sometimes history shaping events that took place here. Suffice to say I saw riots and tanks on the streets during the martial law in early 80', I saw the first visit of Pope John Paul II to still communistic homeland, which gathered millions, I witnessed the collapse of the system at the end of 80'. I also remember less profound but still important events like awarding of Nobel prizes firstly to Milosz and then to Szymborska or the making of Schindler's List by Steven Spilberg.
Consequently as a guide, I usually share my memories with the tourists and as a trained historian I put those memories into wider context. With this way of storytelling I am trying to create more vivid and interesting image of my city in the minds of my clients and, most of all, to help them better understand the complex Polish history.
The most important thing is that I love this job and I am passionate about Kraków. Krakow truly gives the opportunity to show the city from different perspectives - as a historical capital of Poland, artistic and cultural center, city of literature, or just the place where locals live their life with their joys and sorrows.
